Official OTA Update Discussion

Yeah, well they told my friend it was the 20th...straight from tech support. Told him not to hold his breath, but here I am falling for the "update check". I guess what he was told along with all the internet chatter about the 20th just sucked me in.

Epic fail...trusting the "man"...doesn't care. He's got my money for the phone, and he's on to the next thing.

Hehe, its like waiting for the end of the world. It wont come today, tomorrow and I would actually be very surprised to see it this month. Samsung is notorious for piss poor post.sale support. If it comes at all, I would put it some time in October.

I would love to be wrong, but I have little faith in Samsung. This will be.my last Samsung product. I really hope that when upgrade.time.comes along, moto or htc will have a great android phone on att.

Saw this posted at XDA. This looks official.

09/21/2010 - Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) software update changing software version from I897UCJF6 to I897UCJH7. A 12MB download is being pushed to Samsung Captivate owners starting on 09/21/2010 and will continue Tuesday through Friday at 15K customers per day until complete. This is NOT an operating system update. This update includes the following software updates:
Preinstalled software - QuickOffice for Android will allow users to edit various Microsoft Office documents.
Messaging - Exchange 2003 support, MMS and other messaging enhancements.
Voice - Improved calling experience.
Media - media scanning time improvements.

Sadly enough, no mention of any type of GPS fixes...smh.

i dont see the big deal with the 2.2 update (correct me if i'm wrong though lol). As far as I know, it really doesnt add or change too much. I know the compiler is more efficient but other than that, what does 2.2 really change?

If your looking for a GPS fix, this one worked well for me:

[Mod/Hack] A possible GPS fix, note may not work for everyone - xda-developers

Well the ability to install app on to sd card is a nice function, i am interested to see the voice integration as well in froyo

Beginning to sound like the GPS won't be fixed. Those other thigns have been noted, if I recollect correctly, in the leaked ROMS, so no surprises, other than no GPS fix. Yes, still a few days left in September, but It would be a bit surprising to see a fix come out now, and then again in a few days.

Good stuff coming, but I need the GPS.

Regarding the referenced fix above, I've seen as many people it doesn't work for as those it does work for.
