thanks man but since it 2.2 it doesnt do the "touch the android" activation so i cant do that. any other way? it says i gotta activate it by callin but i cant

I don't know what you mean by the "2.2 leak"?... There are 2.2 (Froyo) custom rooted ROMs out there and there were four 2.1 leaks which are commonly referred to as v1, v2, v3, and the base root ROM leak, but no 2.2 leak.

I've never done this key press sequence myself (thankfully haven't had to), so I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. Some of the comments posted at the end of the article indicate that its confirmed for the Eris and there's nothing in the article that mentions it not working on specific versions of Android.

Puzzling...

Also, here's a post I found on howardforums.com re. bypassing activation: Using Eris without Activation

It says:

"Go into the activation screen and press call. As the phone dials, press the Menu button. It should go to the home screen. If that doesn't work, try the Home button. Once it's bypassed, you won't need to bypass the activation screen again unless you reset to manufacture settings."

Maybe that'll work for you...good luck!

Hey Scary Alien i was lookin at ur other forums n i was wondering wat do i do when i go to recovery n get a pic of the phone with a caution sign inside of a triangle?

That's what you'll see if you don't have a custom recovery installed (i.e., you didn't root your phone did you? (you're still on the leak-v3, right))?

yea im not sure how to root it since i cant get to the home screen to mount it. is there away 2 downgrade it to 1.5 with out havin to mount it. Can i do it how i put the leak (put it on the sd card n fastboot it) cuz ive tryed the android sdk kit but it dont read the device any suggestion? n again youve been a big help:D

So, you still can't bypass the activation?

It might be impossible to root your phone if you can't boot it up...since the new rooting methods for the 2.1 leaks symlink a file (mid.txt) w/read-write permission to the recovery partition (and this is done while Android is up and running). You can't use the old / traditional rooting method since you've installed one of the 2.1 leaks (your bootloader is newer on your phone).

I think jcase might have built a base root ROM that's marked with a newer bootloader version that might work here, but I haven't tried it myself and you've still got the activation issue which might still be present even if you were able to flash a root ROM...

Does this mean im shit out of luck? my computer reads the phone when its connected by usb it says its a android does that help at all?

MMAndriod, well, I'm kind of unsure since I don't know that doing anything else will take care of your activation issue... I'd hate to have you try a bunch of stuff and have it lead to nowhere.

One last try...look at this thread (especially the last post): http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/100063-eris-activation-bypass.html

Let me know if this helps.

edit: I also found this on Droid-life: "You can also bypass the eris and the incredible activation screen by just hitting activate/end call a few times in a row and the next option will pop up.. if anyone is interested.. and the LG Ally uses the same technique as the DROID..."

Glad you got it working :).

If you're just going to use it like an iPod Touch (i.e., music player), it'll be fine just the way it is. Go ahead and do the update if you want, you're not limiting yourself from being able to root in the future.

Good luck and cheers!

As many people notice tapping 4 corners on HTC eris doesnt work because the version of it is different from regular DROID but this is the only way you can bypass it.
STEP 1) press EMERGENCY CALL
STEP 2) DIAL ##778 (CALL)
STEP 3) PRESS EDIT MODE
STEP 4) ENTER PASSWORD WHICH IS: 000000
STEP 5) TAP NAM Settings
STEP 6) Enter Your 10 digit phone number press OK
STEP 7) TAP NAM 1 and enter you 7 digid cel phone number without area code
STEP 8) TAP NAM 2 enter your 3 digit area code
STEP 9) TAP back
STEP 10) TAP SID/NID settings and change the left box to: 40 leave the right box as it is(then tap ok)
STEP 11) TAP MENU
STEP 12) TAP COMMIT MOD.
AFTER STEP 12 the android eris will restart in 10 seconds and will bypass the main activation screen.
This is the manual configuation for HTC ERIS

This worked for me last night, in a foreign country. I had no means to get on 3G or even make a regular phone call, and that is exactly how I got mine to work as a WiFi receiver. Thanks to whoever first posted this/figured and Viva Linux for being flexible and ever-editable
