hi,

I am considering getting a kindle/Nook ereader type device for my daughter for her bday. She is 6 yrs old and can read very well and i want to help her development. But she still enjoys illustrations in the books.

I have been looking into the Kindle for Android.. i am not impressed with their idea of ebooks for small kids. it seems that the illustrations are very limited: not enough and only black and white. this just can not keep the attention of a small child.

this is only based on a few books that I have tried to look at via Kindle for android.

has anyone used Kindle and have had better experience for Kids? are there books that truly copy the color and rich visual experience for kids?

thanks

Honestly, I'd go out to a garage sale or a used book store and load up on kids books. You could get a lot of kids books there for the price of a Kindle and you wouldn't have to worry about a kid smashing a $150 device.

yeah... but there are reasons for this device.

1. she can not carry all the books.. this device can have 100s of books at her finger tips. In the car.. at a restaurant... at locations and she is bored.

2. I am divorced and I want her to have this device so she has access to the books.. as she goes back and forth between parents.

3. this Kindle for android .. also as a device that gives her other benefits.

4. Kindle on Android is FREE! NO cost! There are many free books available too.

5. it is my choice to want this for her.

You seem to have made up your mind. We finally received our Kindle3 and it's a pretty amazing device. However, I can understand that its lack of color would turn off a younger kid. But, if improving reading skills is the priority, I can't see any reason why not to get one. Also, one of the coolest things about it is the "Whispersync" whereby, among all your Kindle enabled devices (laptop and Droid included), it knows exactly where you left off on your book. I like to read on my Droid on the way to work on the bus, and when I get home and pick up our Kindle (or the laptop when the fiance is using it), I can continue wherever I left off. At the new lower price, it really is a steal and can certainly grow with your kids in the future years.

So you are planning on buying your 6-8yr old a Android Smartphone?

Your call, but I have looked at the ebook selection for children, and NONE of the books she will want are available for free.

right.. they are not free... I will buy her ebooks.
I said the Kindle for android is free.. never said that I will only get free books for her. I am sure the good ones will cost. I have purchased her many books, and they are torn or destroyed by her cousins. Or lost in the toy room.

I want to get her an android tablet... tool to spark her imagination and grow her mind. Hoping one comes to market that is not crap.

what I want to know from members is...
I want to know if any member here have purchased any ebooks for kids.. on the Kindle for android.. that have good illustrations?

thanks for the help
