What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

I think we should get a good thread going with how everyone has set up profiles in Tasker. With so many options, sometimes I overlook a really cool way to set up a profile. Here is what I have, post yours:

1. Bedtime
Context -
Time: 2130-0300
Orientation: Left Side
Power: Plugged in
Tasks -
Media Volume set
Load app - White noise
Wait - 5 seconds
Load app - digital clock

2. Quite Clock
Context - same as above but time until 1000
Tasks - Notification volume - set
Exit task - notification volume set

3. Car
Context - Bluetooth connected
Tasks -
Media volume set
Wifi off
Exit tasks -
Bluetooth off
Wifi off

4. Call
Context - Incoming call
Tasks -
Auto brightness on IF %CNUM !~ 0
Ringer volume set to 0 IF %CNUM ~ 0
Wait 45 seconds
Auto brightness off
Ringer volume set 15

That is mine except for a few really basic ones. There is still 1 I want to set up:
-Face down at a certain time -> screen lock, otherwise no lock, alarm triggered until unlocked if picked up.

So what is everyone else doing?

I've got a few basic ones that turn on GPS when I launch apps that need it. I've got one that disables screen rotation at night when I'm in bed. I've got one that pops up a list of all my different media options (Music, podcasting app, XM, Pandora, etc....) when I plug my headphones in. Working on one that sends an email when I leave the office.

I have a few:

1) Carmode : says my text message to me sender and body

2)launch GPS for a few apps.

3)headset plugged in launches pandora

4) Battery level at 20% it states to plug in the charger and plays imperial march

5) I also have one that i helped a person with that changes the wallpaper every couple of hours but i disabled it.

6) a demo I created and posted on youtube (I also posted here once before) - to show newbies what tasker is...

Nice. A few questions:
1. How do you set it to read SMS?
2. Can you set it to turn off a live wallpaper on low battery and then turn that live wallpaper back on when you plug it in?
3. How do you set it to play a particular song for an action, can you use an alarm sound or only mp3?

I've got two at the moment which mostly work:

1) On the hour, my phone does a silent "chime" by doing three quick vibs.

2) When I plug in my headphones, it plays the music app and pauses it when unplugging. This way when someone bugs me I unplug my headphones, then plug them back in to continue where I left off. Only problem is when plugging them in for the first time, it plays a random song. Haven't figured that out yet.

This is a really good idea. I need to set mine to pause when I unplug my headphones. I also need to set one up to generate an alarm when the battery overheats. I've just been too lazy to do it up 'til now.

Nice. A few questions:
1. How do you set it to read SMS?

if you install saymyname dessert (free) it will be in the plug ins. It also will announce who is calling and can also read your emails (gmail and k9)
2. Can you set it to turn off a live wallpaper on low battery and then turn that live wallpaper back on when you plug it in?
Yes, I would probably play with it to set your live wallpaper back when it reaches a certain battery level.

3. How do you set it to play a particular song for an action, can you use an alarm sound or only mp3?

yes - go into media, play song. You can have it play any media file on your phone...again its just a matter of playing with tasker to understand how it works. Go to the tasker forums and you can see other people asking questions that you may also have.

I have added a couple more. I used tasker to put a lock on several of my apps incase someone is looking at my phone, I don't want them to screw anything up (I locked apps like Terminal, Bootstrap recovery, root explorer, etc)

Then I added 2 tasks incase of a lost phone:

I can send my X a SMS from any other phone and my X will send back its GPS location and battery level

I can also send a SMS to my X and it will trigger a very loud, very annoying alarm.

We just had our 4th Child, so with the kids going back to school and mom recuperating I took over the morning grind.

I created a simple GPS/SMS notification profile to fire off an SMS to the Mrs when we arrive at school to drop off and pickup. Saves me from answering the "did you get there on time?" messages.

I wish there was a way to use inertia to set off a profile. I don't dock in the car so if there is some way for it to detect motion of acceleration I would use that to kick off my car profile.

WOW, that sounds really cool!
I'd really appreciate if you could tell me how you do that

The most complicated setups I have are for my car.

1.
Context
-Connect car charger
Tasks
-Bluetooth On
-Screen timeout = infinite
-Load app launcher pro (setup with its own icon setup and enables screen rotation for my car mount)
Exit Tasks
-Bluetooth Off
-Go Home (Gets rid of launcher pro)

2.
Context
-Connect Bluetooth
Tasks
-GPS On
-WiFi Off

3.
Context
-Bluetooth Connected
-Received SMS
Tasks
-Reads the SMS out loud to me.
-Sends a reply SMS notifying the sender that I am driving and if they need me they can call me.

I'm currently working on a type emergency alert. Just in case my wife locks herself out of the house again while I'm asleep. ;)

I'm still working on it though. Noises1.ogg will play indeffinately on its own, till another sound file plays or the phone vibrates(I think). So that's why I put in Profile2. I was thinking maybe having Noises1.ogg repeat till I click the Notify Sound: .../Noises1.ogg Notification, but that'd mean another Context profile. ;/

I also made one that ends calls, and sends them a text politely telling them I'm on a data only plan and they can text me "123" to temporarily disable the block.

Context.
Receive SMS with a specific code(personal four digit number).
Tasks.
Reply to %SMSRF letting them know my device is initiating the command.
Turn Profile on: Profile2.
Turn Silent Mode off.
Set Ringer Volume to 12.
Wait 2 seconds. // Delay required or it won't vibrate if you were in silent mode.
Vibrate pattern for eight seconds. // To hopefully warn me before my phone exploads if I'm in a meeting. ;)
Wait 12 seconds. // Again delay required so vibrate(?)/silent mode doesn't prevent sound.
Notify Sound: .../Noises1.ogg.

Context: Profile2.
File Closed: .../Noises1.ogg.
Tasks.
Reply to %SMSRF letting them know the alert has ceased playing.
Turn Profile off: Profile2. //Incase it takes up resources always being on.

--UPDATED. Sorry, I get OCD. lol.
This allows the alarm file to loop without being accidently turned off by a vibrate(?)/sound file playing after Noises1.ogg. It will loop till the notification named 'Emergency.' is clicked.

Context.
0 - Received SMS: 1234. // Specific code only my family knows, case sensitive.
Tasks.
1 - Send SMS: %SMSRF, "Enabling Emergency Alert Procedures, please stand by.".
2 - Profile Status: Profile2 = On.
3 - Variable Set: %EMERGENCY = 5.
4 - Silent Mode: Off.
5 - Ringer Volume: 12.
6 - Wait: 2 Second(s). // Delay required or it won't vibrate if you were in silent mode.
7 - Vibrate Pattern: 1000,2000,1000,2000,1000,2000. // To hopefully warn me before my phone exploads if I'm in a meeting. ;)
8 - Wait: 12 Second(s). // Again delay required so vibrate(?)/silent mode doesn't prevent sound.
9 - If: %EMERGENCY matches 5.
10- Notify Sound: Emergency., .../Alarm_Beem_02.ogg. // I put a red star icon.
11- Wait: 1 Second(s).
12- Goto Action: 9.
13- If: %EMERGENCY doesn't match 5.
14- Send SMS: %SMSRF, "Alert has ceased.".
15- Profile Status: Profile2 = Off. // Minimize resources. Might be pointless redundancy on my part.

Context: Profile2.
0 - Notification Click: Emergency.
Tasks.
1 - Send SMS: %SMSRF, "Alert has been acknowledged.".
2 - Variable Set: %EMERGENCY = 1.

Oh, and this is not thoroughly tested. I take no responsibility if your loved ones stay locked outside due to direct and or indirect use of this information. ;)

Anyone know how I can get Tasker to enable Vlingo's SafeReader? Android script maybe?

I second this! Right now I have it Load App: Vlingo when docked so I can manually turn it on.

I would like to use my Swype keyboard when portrait then switch to Android or Vlingo keyboard when in landscape mode. Anyone figure that one out yet? I'd settle for a pop up with the option when I switch orientation.

I have the following thus far.
1. Alert sound plays once my battery is fully charged, so I can remove the phone from the charger.
2. Turn off wifi and gps from 11pm to 6:30am.
3. Camera button pops up menu with Camera, Camcorder, & Flashlight options.
4. Plugging headphones in brings up a menu with: Music, YouTube, FM Radio, Scanner Radio, Movies, The Onion, & Ustream
5. Auto turn on GPS for several apps when opened. Turns off GPS when app is closed.
6. Wakeup alarm set to speak greeting to me with motivating words and play Benny Goodman's Sing Sing Sing.
7. When I open Google Sky Map the theme music from Carl Sagan's old TV show Cosmos plays.
8. Turned off annoying camera shutter sounds in Camera and Camcorder.

Currently I've got the following profiles..

1. At work (day, time and net location based): sets variable on entry, clears on exit and sends text to specified context on exit. Used in conjunction with 2 and 3.

2. In Meeting (using variable set in 'At Work' + busy calendar event in Work calendar): vibrate only

3. NotInMeeting (using variable set in 'At Work' + inverted busy calendar event in Work calendar): lowered volumes

4. Sleeping (time, docked, when 'At Work' variable not set): silence all notifications. Used in conjunction with OverrideSleeping.

5. OverrideSleeping: overrides Sleeping profile for a whitelist of callers

6. MissedSMS: sounds single notification sound with vibration 5 minutes after receiving a text if not dealt with. Used in conjunction with MissedCall and MissedSMSandCallClear.

7. MissedCall: sounds single notification sound with vibration 10 minutes after receiving a missed call if not dealt with. Used in conjunction with MissedSMS and MissedSMSandCallClear.

8. MissedSMSandCallClear: clears MissedSMS and MissedCall tasks if the display is unlocked whilst they are running. Used in conjunction with MissedCall and MissedSMS.

9. WiredHeadsetVolumeLimit: halves media volume when a wired headset is plugged in. Reverts to full when unplugged

10. BluetoothHeadsetCallMenu: offers a 15 second popup menu for apps EnRoute, CoPilot, Google Nav, SpeedView when my headset is connected

11. LockDelay - requires paid plugin Locale Password Lock Plug-in: activates a PIN lock if my phone is not used for 30 minutes (ie screen has not been turned on) except where the phone is being charged (any power source)

The LockDelay is the one I'm most proud of :D. I found it a right pain to implement correctly (the wiki approach didn't work for me) and it's the only way I've found of having a delayed lock screen on a stock unrooted N1 with Froyo installed. Most other lock delay apps have been hampered by Google's API changes as part of the Froyo release.

My only clever one is for docking. I really dislike having to turn my music off, and it makes your Android look like a dork's phone when it keeps playing once undocked and the car's off. It was also really annoying that WidgetLocker doesn't know when the phone is in a Car Dock.

So,

State: Docked
Enter Tasks:
Kill App WidgetLocker (I saw on the Google groups forum there is a way to send it intents to suspend it but I don't know how to use these yet.)
Bluetooth on
GPS On
WiFi Off
AutoBrightness Off
Display Brightness 255

Exit Tasks:
LoadApp WidgetLocker
Kill all music programs
AutoBrightness On
Bluetooth and GPS Off

I just need to set up another state profile for vibration - I like it on when I'm out when it's in my pocket, but otherwise I keep vibration off. However the WifiNear stuff never seems to work right - I just changed mine to a 2km cell tower radius, since I realized my tower fix is often as bad as 2 km even though I'm in a mid-sized city, and I'm hoping that will turn my Wifi back on when I get home...

I have a question about Tasker - i'm currently trying it out before i buy it.
If i set the Context as a location, (i.e. home) and then the task is to turn Wi-Fi on, how does Tasker know when i've left home, to trigger the wi-fi off?
Does this mean i have to leave my GPS on all the time?

Thanks!
I set mine staggered.
-When I get to my home GPS location, it turns Wifi on, period. (Called this 'Enable Home')
-Then when it connects to my home network, it changes all of my settings to whatever I want home to be. Including turning GPS off. (This is my actual 'Home' context, so while I am at my house the GPS is always off)
-Then whenever I leave my 'Home' context (ie, exit the radius of my specific home wifi network connection) it turns GPS back on. And when I leave the general area, it turns Wifi off.

Hope this helps.

Can you guys please post the instructions on how to set up these profiles? Thanks much.

I haven't got the time and energy at the moment to post them all (and most of mine are culled from the wiki and user groups for Tasker), however the 'Lock Delay' is all mine, so here it is.

This setup requires 2 profiles and a paid plugin. The lock delay plugin can be used with all numbers (i.e. a PIN lock) or all letters (Password). I have only tested this with PIN.
The profile will lock the phone if it is not charging and has not been in use for 30 minutes. To change this delay, set the %LOCKDELAY variable in profile 1 to the required amount. I'd suggest testing with a shorted time span whilst you still have the refund option on the plugin to make sure you are happy with the results.

Profile 1: "Lock Delay"
Contexts:
Display Off
Not Power
Task: DelayLock
1. Variable Set %LOCKDELAY To 30
2. Wait 1 minute
3. Variable Subtract %LOCKDELAY Value 1
4. Stop IF $SCREEN ~ on
5. Goto Action Number 2 IF %LOCKDELAY > 0
6. Password Lock Plugin ON IF %SCREEN ~ off
Set Task Properties: Abort Existing Task. Keep Device Awake

Profile 2: "Unlock"
Contexts:
Display Unlocked
Task: Unlock
1. Password Lock Plugin OFF

REQUIRED PLUGIN is "Locale Password Lock Plug-in"

As a footnote it's worth taking some time to play with Tasker - I've been a software developer for 13 years and it took me an evening of reading up on it online and an afternoon of playing around to really start to grasp the possibilities. Look at what's in the wiki profiles and have a play, and join the Google Groups mailing lists for Tasker :D

A couple questions:

1. Do all the locale plug ins work with tasker? If so I'm going to start looking to get some.

2. How does this plug in work? Is it different from the built in display lock in tasker?

3. How can I set up a profile to lock the phone on boot? For example, I lock my phone using an SMS profile (easy to set up) if my phone is lost or stolen. Then whoever finds my phone turns it off and back on - now it is not locked. I only want to enter a password once on a reboot when tasker starts, not everytime I unlock my phone.

I've been working on a "Wheres My Droid" replacement, and one of the reasons I'm not locking the phone with Taskers Lock action is that it appears weak - I can press Home to clear it for a few seconds, or long-press Home and select a running app, and manage to move around in Android. Can this plug-in be bypassed, that you're aware of?
