Root unable to install new gmail app

I got it to install fine on Kaos Froyo.

I'd check on the xda Tazz thread. I'm willing to bet that Tazz will cook the new version into the ROM in the next update, or give a flash for it.

You are not missing all that much - the only thing that I have noticed is the "important" label, which is used by the priority mailbox feature in gmail, is now sort-of supported (which is good for me, because I love the priority email feature.) I say sort of supported because you can look at the messages marked important, but you cannot label messages as important that are not already labeled that way (unless I am missing something, which is possible...)

I've been having the same issue with most google app updates. The work around I've found that installs it for me has been deleting it with root explorer, reboot, then install.

You can give that a shot and see if it works for you as well

This is a good idea, though I think what I would do is rename the gmail.app file with Root Explorer (to something like gmail.old) rather than delete it, just in case it doesn't work when you install from the market.

I usually keep the latest rom I've flashed on my sd card. That way I can just extract it from the zip file. But yeah, if you don't do that it's a good idea to just rename the file extension.
