Do I really need to revert back to 2.1 if I got 2.2 from first leak?

This apparently is a touchy subject, people were asking this all over the forum, then rumors started flying it couldn't be done, then moto stepped in with threats, people got hit for posting certain files to revert and now if you even mention "do I have to revert for OTA to apply" you see /duck ... mod delete ect.

I apparently wasn't on the forum every single day so I too must have missed something in between the above events BUT to answer your question, yes, you need a stock OS before the official OTA will apply. I have the first leak, honestly love it, but I've been trying to force the update since 10pm last night with no luck, so I personally can confirm that the first leak needs to be reverted, there was another one but that was in the foggy area I speak of above.

I've hinted at this question and never got a response either, so apparently its been questioned to death no body will truly give you the run down.

On a side note, birdman still retains the first leak and is working on a new 2.2 zip that would apply the same OS the OTA provides - relax and see how this OTA works before doing anything you don't think you can handle (i've prepared myself for this day, see sig) sometimes when these first role out there could be more bugs than the leak, who knows - only time will tell.

YES you need to revert, i just did mine, reverted back to 2.1 from leaked 2.2 and instantly got message to upgrade to 2.3. follow instructions on post #2 from here [Q] How to Uninstall 2.2 - xda-developers to the letter and you will have 2.3 update.

IF you get stuck on red eye/droid logo loop then you didnt follow instructions to the letter, your phone is not bricked so dont panic, just finish the final task

To the above poster, not jacking your route of instructions - their very clear, but to the OP, if those get a little confusing there is a how-to on this forum with instructions, and a video which may make things more understandable. xda is great though.

the leak was quite buggy, and all i can say about that is that yes it is a general term, but now that i have the officail version, it seems much smoother , MUCH...

Although I agree with this, take it with a grain of salt. A lot of this could simply be placebo effect.

How about this I rooted only 2.1. Never updated the leaked froyo. Now I un rooted using the anroot and when I go to install the update I get the message, it downloads and starts to install but about 1/4th into it it fails... Fyi all I did with rooted 2.1 was instal nextheme... Any ideas what to do? I'm lost.

Why do you want to? We have the same version and the new one is a BIG FU to the mod community. Once you go to the 2.2 OTA you will never be able to go back to 2.1 and it's possible but not yet confirmed they patched the engineering mode exploit that will allow us access to the boot loader.

I other words you aren't missing anything and will if you do.

This move by Moto has already bricked lots of phones. Many had issues with the OTA install and tried to fix with sbf but Motos screwed them over and they are now bricked for good until a 2.2 sbf is found.
