Help Thinking of returning my Desire - Help!

Hi,

I know it seems as though this topic has come up a million times but I just cant seems to make my battery last!

I've had the phone for a week now and did the whole charging and cycling routine as advised, yet the absolute best battery I can get is 16 hours - this is with background data off, suto sync off and light usage!

- I check facebook 2 or 3 times a day and only really use the phone for push email from 3 email accounts on K9 (I dont even get email that regularly, perhaps a total of 6 emails a day)

I woke up today after having my phone on charge over night and found that it had dropped down the first segment on the battery display after having been unplugged for an hour!

I'm reading stories on this forum about people getting 40 - 48 hours battery life! how is this? - I would settle for 24hours

I have autosync off, background data off, I have a black background (I've tried using a task killer and not using one - didnt seem to make much difference) - what else can I do?

Please help, otherwise I'm gonna go back to my Iphone 3g which lasted twice as long with pretty much the same functions.

So, you've read the threads but somehow missed how these people are getting their battery life...

Try the FAQ - section 1.5 for a start and see how you get on.

Screen is the biggest killer on mine. Try reducing the brightness.

If its been on charge and full for so long, it intentionally loses 10% battery and then recharges as apparently it cannot handle trickle charge, so this may be worth checking also.

I have brightness down low on the phone and I've heard of the trickle charge problem - what can I do?

- I'm gonna try turning off 'always on mobile data' as this doesnt really seem to do anything.

I'm just frustrated that the only way I can seem to get anywhere near decent battery life is to turn absolutely everything good about the phone off!

Shall try to help.

Right, first off,

-charging;

Charge till it says the battery says its full, disconnect then reconnect the cable, it will probably charge some more, once its done again, turn off phone and charge again while off, this might charge some more again, then keep unplugging and re plugging till it goes straight to charged. The reason to do this is to try and make sure the battery is charging 100%, sometimes you can find that they think they are full when they arn't.

Battery usage;

-Turn off the weather effects when you unlock the phone that HTC use (if you have them on, tbh they are pretty pointless and do use a fair amount of juice) if you use the weather and clock widget. Easiest way to turn this off that I find is to delete the widget, re add it and on the last option when adding it there is a tick box for the effect, untick that.

-Sync (under accounts and sync in settings) should be setup. Go into there and turn sync off of things you dont use, e.g. stocks, news, weather if you dont use it.

-Dont use live wallpapers, they drink battery like its going out of business!

-Turn brightness on screen down, or to auto.

-Dont use widgets unless you have to.

-Last but by NO means least, batteries can take several cycles to come upto top performance, and it isn't helped if they arnt fully charged from the off (my first point).

This should all help. Mine usually gets 2 days with normal usage, and 1 day with heavy internet usage or game usage.

Out of interst, what phone have you come from? I can tell you with a great deal of confidence that no 3"+ screened modern smartphone will perform substantially ( i.e. there will be very little in it, hours at most) better.

All the other things you have suggested, I have already done. I use no widgets and have all syncing and background datas off - battery still last for a max of 16 hours

ask for a replacement device with a new battery, if you have not added any apps that drain it and you are depleting the battery within 16 hrs then something is wrong

today my battery has 30% left and ive used it for 2.5 hrs of music (commuting), 20 mins of browsing, 2 phone calls of 10 mins each, background data is on with 3g/hsdpa on with autosynch enabled
i also have twitter and face book apps refreshing every 4hrs with widgets on the screen

No, should only really need to do that once, twice at most. Its basically making the phone recognise the true full battery.
