Widgets, widgets, widgets!!!!!
Let me start this off by saying that I am stuck with AT&T. I work in a business that I has a phone account for 11 phones that is with AT&T, and this is not changing. The only carriers in our area are verizon and AT&T, so I don't have ny low priced options. Essentially, I get my personal phone paid for through the business to be used for work and personal, and I'm not about to spend $100 or more a month just to switch to Verizon when I can have my phone paid for.
So, earlier this year I was excited about being on AT&T because I wanted to get an iphone. But over the summer I started researching Android pretty heavily and quickly fell in love. Well, I'm not sure if you remember, but earlier in the year, there were plenty of hero/other android phone rumors stating that they'd be showing up on AT&T. None have materialized, so naturally I started looking at the iphone again as an alternative as my wife and I were planning to purchase new phones for Xmas(business pays the plan, I'd have to pay the phone price for the plan).
However, after being so enamored with Android, the looking at the iphone hasn't been as nice. But honestly, I can get past most of the negatives, as the iphone certainly has some, albeit debatable, positives over Android phones, most notably ease of use and sync with itunes.
The ONE thing that I can't seem to get past though, is the lack of widgets for the home screen. If I want to know what the next item is on my work schedule, I want to be able to have an easy swipe to a widget, or have it right on my home screen. I don't want to have to launch an application! The iphone is almost seeming more and more like a gaming device first, and a smartphone second.
I have a crappy ol' Blackjack 2 currently, and while it does horribly with most everything, at least it displays my next scheduled item for me on the main screen.
Widgets seem like a necessity to me on a smartphone, and how apple just overlooks this is beyond me. At this point I'm hoping and praying for an updated hero to come out at the beginning of '10 or for the X10 to be good and arrive on time. I'm just not sure how much longer I can hold of on my impatience for an android phone on AT&T.
