noooo whyyyy this is happening???

now that we got the GPS fix what are going to talk about?
there are many members of this forum that the only thing they do is talking how this phone is bad and how samsumg will never fix the GPS
now that its fix what this people is going to talk about?

Now we're going to talk about how the fix isn't working for some. It's working for me so far but in a few days people could be talking about how it stopped working for them after being fixed initially.

if you don't like the phone or think that samsung will never fix it just return the phone is that hard to do?
If people paid for something, they have a right to complain. Why do you even care? Why not just ignore the posts/threads? Is that hard to do?

And it this day and age where companies release what is essentially beta products (both hardware and software), public pressure for the company to follow up is essential. Companies have finite resources. I'm sure Samsung would rather have their people working on the next gen phones and not have to update existing phones. If nobody complained, then there wouldn't be a need for an update. Do you really think they'd rather give you Froyo for free vs sell you a new phone with Froyo? Or waste resources on debugging software that's already been released? Be glad that there were enough people complaining about the GPS to where Samsung had to look into it.

It wouldn't bother me as much if they kept it to a couple threads, but they don't.
How many GPS threads did we have before the OTA Update? How many do we have now? How many OTA Update threads do we have now with people complaining?
How many threads are there where someone said they were returning/returned the Captivate?
How many threads about an app has an unrelated complaint about the phone in it?

The mods go crazy with moving threads into all these different sub forums; why aren't they combining the 20 GPS or OTA threads?

i think a lot of the lack of dates for updates are due to at&t as well, and most people completely ignore that. Samsung can have a firmware ready but at&t has to have their way with it before its allowed to be released.

my only concern is im not sure if the update is a good thing or a bad thing, either:

a) we are lucky that our sgs was the first to get the new firmware and we are ahead of the rest of the pack

or

b) samsung knew at&t was going to take forever with froyo, so we get this update now, while others will see froyo soon

either way i love the phone, just looking for new features

When I'm out in the woods on a long hike, I'm going to pull out my Garmin _not_ my Captivate no matter how the GPS functions.

I never judge a phone based on its GPS, or Radio, or Video capability

My Captivate?... It's Excellent... :)

Agreed! I use the maps a lot but not the gps. If you can read a map who cares.
I didn't buy the phone for the gps anyway. There are plenty of other things on the captivate to enjoy.

LOL. I live in Silicon Valley. I *work* in high tech. I think I know how high tech companies operate.

You need to realize that there are differences between unaccounted bugs and known bugs that get passed on due to release schedules. And schedules are getting tighter and tighter as companies compete to get their product to market.

Case 1: The iPhone 4 antenna situation. If you think Apple didn't know about it then I have a bridge to sell to you. They just happened to design a $29 bumper that fixes the problem? And if enough people didn't complain, Apple wouldn't have offered the bumpers for free as a fix to very real problem or even hinted that there was a problem at all.

Case 2: The Xbox 360 red ring of death. Microsoft ended up extending the warranty due to customer complaints of their machines dying. Thanks to the "complainers" it forced Microsoft to stand behind their product.

this phone only have 2 months in the market.
So? Do I get a discount on my service or phone? If not, then why do I have to wait for a fix on a feature that should be working from the start? The Galaxy S line has been released in Asia and Europe since June. That's 4 months not including all the time needed to pass FCC, etc. I would venture to guess that Samsung knew about the GPS issue for a long time.

Like I said, companies don't have infinite resources. Issues that receive the most complaints get priority. If complaints are low, the issues get put way down on the priority list and may never get resolved.

They'll complain about how they should get Froyo now.
^ This:D

Links? Or you can report them. As one of the guides who tries to keep the Captivate section clean i will say it is hard to keep track of all the new threads not to mention knowing when a certain thread has already been discussed. When i get time i try to go back a few pages and combine as many as possible (did that in the support section last week, went through EVERY page).

So if you see a few things that need moved/combined then PM me or any guide/mod that is online. Or report it, those go straight to any mod that is online and rest assured it will get reviewed/looked at very quickly.

Thanks

I don't understand why so many posters here lose a gasket each time GPS comes up. Then side with Samsung saying the rest of us should have patience and give them 6 more months to fix it. Some of us, myself included, love the phone and gave Samsung the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, that meant risking the 30 day return window in hopes of getting a fully functional phone. Once you get beyond those 30 days, makes it extremely difficult if not impossible to get your money back or have your phone swapped for a new one.

The software update broke the software update feature of the phone, so that's probably what we will talk about now. Many people are experiencing this.
