So I have an Lg Ally but I want to upgrade at full price for the droid x, If I go online and upgrade for the droid x do I have to pay the full price all at once or can I add it to my bill and pay it over about a month or so until its paid off? If this is a dumb question i'm sorry, and if nobody has thought of this before then go me!

EDIT:: Sorry title was sopossed to be upgrade

I'm kind of confused about upgrading. I'm on a family plan and the new every 2 contract is up in November, I'm going to be getting the droid x or possibly droid 2. Now what price exactly would I have to pay for this? What all discounts should I get or ask for when getting my new phone soon?

I'm not sure what discounts get taken off the phone or plan or whatever. What's this $50 discount you are talking about? And I didn't know anything about upgrading after 1 year for only $20? Are those upgrade phones after 1 year the same price as 2 year phones?

Thanks

If you have a 2 yr contract then after 1 yr you can upgrade for a $20.00 fee (Verizon will waive the $20.00 fee depending on the CSR). The price is the standard contract price and requires that you sign up for an additional two years.

If you wait 18 months on a two-year contract you then get the NE2 (New Every 2) which means that with a two-year renewal you get the new phone at the contract price plus an additional $50.00 off. (On main line only if you have a family plan). Hope this helps. :)

Bottom line, if I were you, even if I had just signed my contract today, I'd wait a year and save $369. Of course, if you're within 30 days of the contract start date, you can exchange it at no additional cost. You would just pay the same for the Droid X as you would if you were a brand new customer.

On a side note, this is my 100th post. Woohoo! :D

Actually, that's close, but not entirely accurate.

The annual upgrade is offered if you are a) a My Verizon customer (pretty much everyone is) and on a plan of $49.99 or higher. At that price point, the upgrade fee applies. If your plan is $79.99 or higher, the upgrade fee does not apply.

The NE2 discount is applied at 20 months, not 18. The 18 month cycle seems to be a Additionally, if one goes the Annual Upgrade route, they forfeit their NE2 discount and the 20 month clock is reset. The $50 NE2 credit is applicable only if the line's voice plan is $79.99 or above. Plans $39.99 to $79.98 receive a $30 credit.

From the horse's mouth...

Oh ok thank you. So I'm the extra line on a 2 person family plan. But the main carrier will most likely get a free phone. Is there any way I could use that persons credit on my phone purchase so it doesn't go to waste?

Also, is there a way to find this in writing on the verizon website to show to the main line person this info? thank you all very much

ugh, i found this on their faq:
"I have a Family SharePlan with several lines of service. Am I eligible for New Every Two?" The primary line is eligible to participate in New Every Two. Secondary lines are not eligible for the program unless they are subscribed to an Unlimited Anytime Minute Plan. However, you can also transfer your New Every Two credit to another line on your account.

Does this mean that as the secondary line I can't get it? our plan is a 700minute with unlimited texting. I don't get it

ah really? Even though there's only 2 lines on the account with an almost $100 bill?

On the main account page, when I select either phone it lists the main carriers as eligible now, but on mine it says 11/28/10. They're also both listed in the upgrade now but say uneligible (just due to past bill that didn't go through), I think once this bill goes though I'll see if it's possible, or maybe even call/go to the store. But if I can't upgrade then maybe it's time to switch = /, I just really need to get rid of this phone

So you are saying that the main line doesnt want their upgrade because they are getting a free phone? Am I correct on that? Cause they can give you their upgrade (im assuming there is no plan restrictions on that). On the left hand side of your account page (doesnt matter which line youre on, the main line or secondary), there should be a counter that tells you when the main line can upgrade. Even if it says a date that hasnt occured yet, click on it. It will show both phones and when they are eligible for upgrade and will tell you if you can get a discount anyways. If one is up for upgrade, there should be a "give upgrade to someone else" button or something to that nature. Do you see any of this? Am I rambling?..haha

Also, I dont think it matters that your past bill didnt go through. My friends account said she owed like 200 dollars because her check hadnt cleared yet but still gave her the option. Im pretty sure its not affected by that.

Everything is grayed out on that page and says you can't do anything until the past bill is paid. Also what I meant by the free phone, is that the main line will end up picking up one of the free phones for the upgrade instead of dishing out $200 for a higher end type phone.

I never knew that only the main line got upgrades on family plans, from what I've read on these forums from a couple threads on the first page and stuff, it seems like everyone gets one. I know someone who just picked up a phone yesterday on their family plan but their contract isn't up until november either. It just makes no sense to me.. hm

I have had quite a bit of experience with this as we have 5 lines on our share plan (the max # of lines for a shareplan). IF the main line has an upgrade and doesn't want to use it, THEN they can transfer it to another line. Extra lines get an upgrade after 24 months, and if they don't want to use it, they can move that to any of the other lines also, but ONLY after 24 months.

As far as main line upgrades, they can happen at 12 months with 2 year contract pricing, or at 20 months for a 2 year extension and get the NE2 discount. To get the NE2 they must get another 2 year contract.

For people on a 1 year contract, they can upgrade at 10 months with a 12 months extension at 1 year contract pricing, or at that time they can switch to a 2 year contract and get 2 year pricing and also be eligible for the NE2 after 20 months.

So the only way you can use your other line's upgrade is if they decide not to upgrade. It doesn't matter if they are only getting a free phone, they are using the upgrade, so you would have to wait until the 24 months is up for your extra line to be eligible for your upgrade. You cannot use one upgrade to get 2 phones. There are buy one get one free offers, but the extra phone requires a new line of service. Hope that helps clear the confusion.

Oh Thank you a lot, so that means I'm still able to get an upgrade? Just 2 months later? There's only 2 lines on our family plan and I'm the second.

As I said, after your 24 months are up, you should be eligible for an upgrade at 2 year pricing, provided your account is in good standing (ie you do not owe Verizon any money).

You should be able to call customer service (*611) and ask them what your upgrade date is and what you are eligible for.
