Ive had my droid 2 for a few weeks now. mostly I like it. I came from a D1 so I knew what I was getting into.. anyway, the one thing that has driven me bat5hit right out of the gate is the gap between the slider and the keyboard. Now I understand there has to be a gap to a degree. My issue is, on the bottom (where the 4 block menu soft touch key is) the gap is greater than at the top of the phone (and on the side with the search soft touch key). What I am saying (typing) is that the corner with the 4 block menu soft touch key is raised higher than any other portion of the 'gap'. Essentially, when the phone is closed, I can push down on that corner and it is significantly 'bouncy'.

The keyboard opens and closes pretty much as normal. its not loose, slightly more so than my D1, but nothing crazy. I did not remove the blue tab (yet). so pretty much the functionally is fine. but it drives me NUTS. Almost to the point where I returned it. My question is, does ANYone else have this issue? Is your keyboard/slider 'gap' the same width all the way across? I am curious is this is just a thing with the phone or if it's jacked somehow.

dam. Im on an employee account. and I THINK they send me a refurb from the start. Meaning it looked like the package was opened. Problem is, I can't just walk into a store and get it replaced. I have to go through employee cust serv. and best case scenario, I will get a refurbed anyway. damit. I paid full price, should be new. Calling them tomorrow. If they won't replace it, I'll maybe try the droidx since I am still im my 30 days. dam dam dam

OK so check this out... they sent me a replacement... a droid x. wtf! so, I have to call them again tomorrow and do this all over again. but I have 2 questions...

1. when you bought your droid 2 (or droid x for that matter), was the box it came in secured with a sticker? You know, the little clear round ones that are generally over the box lids for vid games, electronics, etc. Neither my droid 2 or droid x has had one.

2. since today is thursday, and I cant call cust service til tomorrow morning, and since fed ex overnight wont come until Monday... do I activate the droid x and play with it for the weekend? :)

i gotta say, I don't much care for the droid x. Yep, that's right, I opened it. I DO like the fact that's its solid state (ie no slider) but frankly the screen is just too big. I dont think I have small hands, maybe average, and I'm having a hard time with one-handed use. I dont want a phone that I HAVE to use 2 hands with (how am I suppose to text and drive that way?!?!) Plus, it has the same resolution as the D2 so on the bigger screen it almost looks washed out and not as crisp. I think it would rock if maybe I watched more vids on it or traveled or whatever. Just sayin, I am happy with the D2 for my needs. And I realize there are a bazillion posts on Dx vs D2, but as this is my post, and it's related to the topic, na na na na boo boo

Anyway, anyone have a comment on this:

Mine came right from Verizon via fed Ex and mine didnt have a sticker or label... The box was partially open inside the Fed ex box...

At store, fellow pulled out a box previously opened, things obviously rummaged. I said nope, want a new box...doesn't have a seal type sticker. Keyboard isn't squishy either, would bother me at full price. Not so much w/big discount as a 'second'.

ok, got my replacement phone. I can confirm that it is NEW, at least there is nothing to make me believe its not. however, I can also confirm the it has the same gap as my original phone. So basically, wtf! I will post pix when I get home tonight. I just can't believe that it's supposed to be this way, but again, maybe it's me and I am just being too particular... so I am gonna post pix and ask you all to confirm if your D2s look the same.

the Dx maybe isn't looking so bad now...

Mine is pretty much the same. I must admit it drove me nuts till I compared it to three stores worth of demos (its not that bad all three stores are within 2 miles of the house) one brand new one and two in use phones. All of them were very similar to mine. I guess that's the way the D2 is. I still have my D1 and the slider is much tighter but to be fair the keyboard is also flat. Given a choice between a bumpy keyboard and a bigger gap or flat keyboard and smaller gap I'll keep the D2.
