I am wondering if Swype is still available to download and if so, where? I thought it was on Market but guess not. is this free?

I have tried Ultra Keyboard that allows you do to typing OR tracing, and tracing seems to be very similar to this Swype concept. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

Swype is only available currently through the beta at Swype | Text Input for Screens

All other methods of obtaining swype are not allowed to be discussed on the forums as they are considered illegal distribution of copyright materials.

I have not tried Ultra Keyboard, is it on the market? Any links to reviews?

Hmmm....ok was not aware of that. I will check out the link.

Ultra is available on the Market with reviews to read right there on the download page. Check it out. Pretty cool.

I tried UltraKeyboard and I like all the features but for me it was lacking any type of predictability. I got accustomed to using Swiftkey and love it.

Really???? I had SwiftKey, thought it was ok, started using Ultra and would never go back!

Course, I still want to try out Swype, though it appears I will need to wait for the next Beta???? :(

I really hate to post yet another dumb question, but I'm not seeing an answer.

I am using Slide It demo. If I wanted to revert to the stock HTC EVO keyboard, how would I do it? Under settings for the phone, the only keyboard showing is Slide It. How would I get a different one back?

Do you have to completely uninstall the present one?

I can't believe Ultra doesn't get more love. I've been using it and can't believe how well it works. I've been a Swype user since November of last year (legally I might add) the beta update for froyo was terrible so I've been using Slideit and now Ultra.

It's very customizable, has swype features and you can even make your own themes. Check this review out at App Review: Ultra Keyboard 3.0 AndroidSPIN | Your No.1 source for Everything Android.
I like it very much so far and it needs more press.

Got a couple of questions about Ultra keyboard:
1) There is a translate function on the app, according to the documentation, but there are no instructions for that. Can you tell me how it works?

2) When using Office Suite Pro, in landscape mode, I can't see what I'm typing and a button marked "execute" is showing. Pressing it doesn't seem to do anything. Why can't I see the text & how do I fix it?

Thanks!

After reading about UltraKeyboard on this site, I thought I'd try it out. I was blown away by the functionality of this app!

This is one of those apps that is functional for me that I'm buying it before the 24 hour trial period expires. I don't need anymore convincing or demo experiences with Ultra. I'm surprised I had not heard of this app sooner. Thanks for the recommendation!

I am a beta tester for Swype and find it lacking and pails in comparison to Ultra Keyboard, and I also use SwiftKey and find it's predictive text very nice as well...

...but SwiftKey can also be very annoying when you completely type out a word and it chooses to place a completely different word in it's place.

Anyway here are the keyboards I have currently installed:

I have been wanting to trim this list down so I am going to uninstall both Swype and ShiftKey.

Done:

Now life is good again. :)

I am totally with you on this! I never used Swype but have signed up for the next Beta. In the meantime, I have been using Ultra, mostly with the swipe feature and I really love it!

My only question is....where the HELL is the underscore on the keyboard???? I have yet to find it!!!!

Otherwise, this app rocks!

Have any of you guys used the Sense UI keyboard, Swype and the Vanilla android keyboard? I started on Sense and then installed a custom vanilla android rom and I miss the keyboard in sense so bad. I used to be very accurate and quick on the sense keyboard, but on swype and the vanilla android keyboard I can only type gibberish :(

Can you recommend something with similar predictive capabilities as the sense keyboard? I've tried SlideIT but haven't been able to find a free/light version of ultimate keyboard to try.

ULTRA is not as refined as SWYPE. Double letters, apostrophes and such are much easier in SWYPE.

Ultra never seems to understand the word I want. "Hello" always comes out as "Hell". It can't figure out "there".

Trace only works when suggestions is activated.

Fair enough, but until those of us who were not lucky enough to get to the BETA in time, might be a good sub until that time.

I am still eagerly awaiting the chance to try Swype.

I've tried SlideIt, Swype, Better Keyboard, Swiftkey (briefly), Shapewriter, and now Ultra. Swype I found the easiest to use as far as adding things (caps, punctuations)-most everything is intuitive. I also found the speed and accuracy (and ability to correct when it's not getting what I want to type) to be the best. The never ending beta, with it's suddenly non-functional keyboard, reinstalling, waiting for the next surprise beta ending is crazy making. I don't find Ultra to be quite as accurate in the slide mode, but it's not bad, and has lots of options easily available, so I did buy it after the 24 hours and think I'll be using it for a while (until I hear about the next "greatest keyboard) somewhere)

I think I've tried them all as well ... I tend to use SlideIT more than the others.I also like Shapewriter, but I don't like the word selection panel at the side of the screen, (in landscape mode)as it makes the keyboard smaller. I'm convinced that I used to have an earlier version where the suggestions were in a box above the keys, which I liked far more .. can anyone remember what version that was?
and I found ultra keyboard ultra confusing, those grouped letters did nothing for me I'm afraid.

I used swype for a while, then switched to ultra. I don't understand the problems some of you are having (such as CXXV). If I want to swype "there" I just go ty > gh > hold for 3 seconds on er. you can also swype on and off the er if you want to swype even faster, but I find it fast enough with the previous method. I also like the "replacements", useful for reducing long things to a few swypes (e.g. my email address appears as an option if I swype in my initials). Also comes with various replacements by default such as BTW, IMO, etc. Not only that but the developer is a nice guy and has a facebook group that he updates when updating (and asks for features we would like included). All in all a super application. p.s. yes this is my first post but I am not affiliated. Now if only I could find a great contact app :(

Well. That method for multiple letters is not intuitive nor is it fast. With SWYPE one simply goes over the letter multiple times and then you have it. Also in Ultra the apostrophe is very annoying. I like how SWYPE just has it as another key on the keyboard. All you have to do is swipe past it.

I also don't like the dialog for the suggested words. It gets in my way. With SWYPE you can set the time that it takes to select the first word. I have it set to 0.
