Root Something big on the way!! update: R2D2 available via TBH

cvpcs isn't working on the same thing as P3Droid

So those tweets aren't really related just so people know.

I am curious to see what P3Droid has cooking and hope it really is something big like hes saying and not just a small hack or tweak. He's making it out to be a huge massive update or something but I don't want to get my hopes up too much

It's the r2 d2 theme. He talks to beastly about it on Twitter.

I don't see him talking about the r2 theme specifically and beasly talks to people that have the r2d2 theme. They seem like separate things .162 meg would bea very big theme but beasly says whatever it is has a d2 build.prop so who knows. I guess p3 fell asleep or there was a problem. oh well.
Twitter really sux

he asks @TheRealBeesley, @_Mycahya_, and @Shinta4e to all email him (to be guinea pigs), then all of a sudden they are talking to each other about "P3Droids R2D2 leak," and "Star Wars Binoculars app," and it just all seems to fit with the star wars lingo he was using previously.

If that's it Then "something big" isn't going to excite me anymore. I'll wait for something REALLY REALLY super colossal big from now on ;-) Don't hate me p3 I'm just kidding. :D

So it looks like we are still a ways off from getting a vanilla android 2.2 rom for the Droid X? I haven't seen anything from birdman or anybody else.

Just so I have the facts straight, there is no way to revert back to leaked 2.2 with access to "engineering mode" if you have installed the 2.2 OTA update? If this is the case, not many people will be able to install future custom roms, kernals, ect?:(

If you walked into a Verizon store and bought a Droid X in the next few days, which version of Android will it be running?

As of right now there doesn't appear to be a SBF for 2.2, which is delaying just about everything else custom that may be able to happen, as without that then you're SOL if you screw up your phone. So, yes, right now there isn't a way (that I've seen or read) to go from OTA 2.2 back to 2.1 and then update yourself with the leaked 2.2.

I would be willing to bet that most DX phones in Verizon stores are still running 2.1, but if the stores actually have them on hand (most in my area still don't have stock on hand), then I'd wager that a tech would do the update for you before leaving the store.

And, last I read, Birdman is working on his own thing which is still based on the leaked versions because as best we could all tell he's working under the hood to see what else he can remove, or should I say de-fuse.

I have been waiting to purchase a Droid X in order to see if it would get custom roms, kernals, ect or if the Droid Incredible's battery life would improve (since that phone seems to be the most customizable smartphone Verizon is selling, excluding the original Droid of coarse). It sounds like if I can *find* a Droid X in the store, I can avoid this whole 2.2 OTA debacle and install the leaked 2.2 and potentially install custom roms, etc?

Birdman as said there is a way to roll the bootloader back so we are good and if they ever unlock it every one that wants to should be able to do it.

He hasn't released details and that's probably good knowing Moto's mad dog tactics to try and stop it.

Not that I don't believe you, I just don't want to get my hopes up about the bootloader. I don't remember Birdman saying anything about being able to roll back the bootloader. The message that I've been reading has been warning people not to install the OTA because Moto changed the keys, which effectively puts the kibosh on us from truely hacking the phone.

Why do you think changing the keys stops anyone from hacking the phone?

The keys that were in place before weren't broken.

They're just different keys. So what? If you are trying to break into my computer and I tell you that the current admin password was 8 alpha-characters, but I just changed it to another password that's 8 alpha-characters, how does this affect your attempts? It doesn't.

All that happened was the old SBF can't be used.
