Accessories I have a ghetto cover for my 3500 mAh battery

So.. I bought the cheap Chinese 3500MaH battery from eBay.

No complaints... at all.... I can run the GPS, and several "unnecessary" apps all day long... and this thing is still at 60-70% by the time I go to bed. It's crazy.,.. I could EASILY go 2 full days with little regard for my task killer at all if I wanted to..

But.... My original hard rubber cover OBVIOUSLY won't fit over the back.

I want the protection... so my only option was to literally cut out a gigantic rectangle on the back side on my cover... almost the entire back side of it.... so I really only have protection for the outside edges.

And..... It looks terribly "ghetto".

I've looked.... but have not been able to locate a suitable cover for my gigantic battery on my EVO. Does anyone make one?

lol.

you actually cut a hole in your stock backing plate? And you didn't google for a plate made for the battery before you made such a permanent mod?

You can Un-Ghetto it with CF stickon vinyl.

I used one of the cheap Ebay cases and cut out the back too. The stickon vinyl Carbon Fiber is also from Ebay. Made by 3M and about U$5 for a square foot. Looks good, has texture for gripping and strengthens the cheap plastic case. Also glue the volume button side together and gently bend apart to insert the phone.
The Nub in the USB port connects to the Palm Touchstone charger coil under the battery cover.
And yes, i watch iCarly.

i found a thread awhile back on a guy cutting out the back of is hard case to fit an incredible extended battery, htc 2150 battery. it actually came out pretty good all things considered. of course the incredible with extended battery has a better set up to cut out.

i wonder why htc hasn't made a extended battery for the evo.

Evo-4G-3500MAH-Battery.gif

$24.99 + free shipping

If anyone wants more photos or different angles, feel free to ask me.

It fits well with the docking station, i just take my stock battery and put it in the cradle, while I have my 3500 charging in the phone on the dock.

This photo was taken with the 3500MAH battery installed while in the dock.

here it is ...

Pics from the side and back showing the extended battery door in the dock? That is great news if that fits because I have that dock and should be getting that same extended battery/door any day now!!

I just got my extended battery, and was planning to remove part of my TPU/hard case as well.

See pic. I was planning on removing the hard plastic portion.

I have been wondering this as well . The idea has crossed my mind as well since it would essentially become an *god Im gonna pay for this one* Iphone style bumper for the evo with an extended battery . I guess what it comes down to is how the clear panel is attached to the rest of the case .

I cut my 3 dollar silicone case from amazon to fit the extended battery. I used a very sharp carpet cutting blade. No one would notice unless it was inspected. It now fits well over the sides of the phone. The only thing that bothers me a little is when my fingers feel the edges on the cut part of the case when holding it. It will take a few days to get used to. I'll sacrifice for the side protection. All about that resale value!!!!

i removed the harder clear part of the case. i dont advise doing it. the sides are too flimsy to hold together.

That was my concern when I was thinking about it . I wasnt sure of how thick or sturdy the material around the hard clear piece would be on its own . I guess when i do make the jump to get one of the 3500mah batteries I will just get a cheap silicone case and do a chop job on them . Im really surprised noone has come up with a case to accomidate the extended battery by now . Hell Im still shocked the 2150mah battery from the HTC Incredible hasnt shown up for the HTC Evo in sprint stores yet either . Granted its not a big jump as a 3500 sized battery but still some sign that HTC is attempting to extend its life like it has with other phones they have produced .

I asked a ebay seller, who I have ordered 6 silicone cases from, if he could try to find a silicone case for the extended battery or have one manufactured. I told him that I would be referring a lot of people to him if he could find one becasue a lot of people want one and nobody seems to sell/make them. He is in Hong Kong so i figured having someone in another country to be on the lookout would be good, especially since thats where a lot of these inexpensive accesories are coming from any way...

Another idea i had was to take one of the TPU cases, and boil it in hot water to make it more pliable. I would then try to mold it to the extended case. The water damage sensors are very close to the edges of the phone, so i would need to find a way to protect those... maybe create the mold in a zip lock or something...

Or better yet Wrap the phone in several layers of Cling Wrap plastic . Should seal it enough to keep the moisture from getting into the phone . I would use more than one layer just to be on the safe side though

I thought about this too, but was worried that the cling wrap may melt and bond to the TPU case... I havent decided what I will do yet. Still waiting on my 2nd TPU case. I like my first one too much to experiment.

Modified TPU argyle pattern case,ROCKIN THE SEIDIO 3500,this actually feels and looks so much better than the picture suggests. Also fits perfectly on the innocase seidio holster.

The holster in that pic , Is that the holster that comes with the innocase surface/active cases ? I know there is a holster for the naked Evo ,another for an Evo with a case on it . I have been toying with this idea . Does the phone fit snug in the holster or is there some play ?
