Root Alarming ClockworkMod Problem

I wanted to download the new update for our phone, so last night, I backed up with Titanium Backup and ROM Manager. Then, I used SL4A to undo the ext4 lagfix, as I was told that I had to do. Now, my phone won't boot. It gets to the S screen, pulses for while, and goes dark.

This is what I backed up for, right? But I can't seem to boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Pressing power+volume keys just gets me into the normal Android recovery screen. And since I don't want to reinstall packages, try another reboot in vain, or delete all user data, I'm kind of at a loss.

Can anyone help me?

The only option that you probably have is odin3.

I had the same problem last week and got really scare that i actually brick the phone. But odin bring it back to life.
Luckily (just like you); i also have titanium back up. After i get it update with JH7 (new firmware) i rooted the phone+ busybox and then Titanium back up.

Maybe someone else might have a beter solution so you can wait, but i'm was too impatient and went ahead and odin it because i have Titanium backup.

I'm annoyed at ROM Manager, though. I mean, this exact situation is the reason I got it in the first place. What good is a backup if you can't use it?

Actually, if I flash to stock with Odin3 and re-download ROM Manager, CAN I use that recovery file?

You have to choose reinstall packages twice to get into the CLockwork recovery screen, it is green, stock is yellow. Provided you haven't added any update.zip after you flashed the first time with Clockwork. Even if you did, not a problem do this:
settings--Applications--USB settiings--mass storage
then go to settings--Developement--check debugging on
then Connect you phone to pc--pull down menu from the top and click on USB connected choose to copy files to your computer mount your phone to pc
Now you should be able to browse the folders in the root (internal sd) of your phone either rename the current update.zip or delete it because you can only have one update.zip in your root at a time, that is the package you are choosing to install in the recovery screen. Next bouble click the ClockworkMod Recovery folder there you will see a folder recovery update copy (do not move it or delete it) this to the root of your phone and then rename it to update.
You should now be able to access the Clockwork recovery screen by choosing reinstall packages twice.

Yep...you sir...basically bricked your phone. Odin is the way to fix it.... I heard removing certain lag fixes can cause major problems....like this one. It's not the 1st time it happened.

ya clockwork mod recovery puts a file on your internal sd card named update.zip which includes the recovery. so when your on the stock recovery screen and press reinstall packages, your actually installing the update.zip that clockwork put there. if you did do a backup, and havent removed that update.zip that was put there by clockwork or manually replaced it for another update for a rom or mod, you should be fine just hitting reinstall packages and that will install the clockwork recovery.. then select nandroid and then restore from your previous backup.
worst case scenario, download odin 1 click back to stock, turn your phone off, open odin, hold volume up & down and plug in usb from computer. this will get you into download mode not recovery. just hit start on odin and your done.

Yep...you sir...basically bricked your phone. Odin is the way to fix it.... I heard removing certain lag fixes can cause major problems....like this one. It's not the 1st time it happened.

Wrong, the phone is no where close to bricked. Not sure why you used SL4A instead of just adding the disable-lagfix folder to the voodoo directory. That is the method recommended by the devs repeatedly, but that's neither here nor there now.

A: Stock recovery mode and use the update.zip that's already on the phone as this will get you right back to where you were with out any data loss, assuming of course that you didn't delete the voodoo update.zip file and that you were using v. 1.6 or higher (I believe)

B: Flash to stock with odin one click, you backed up with Ti so this wont be to much trouble and you wanted to flash the new update anyway, this will enable you to do that from stock. You will have alot more to do though versus option A:

Personally I have never had a problem disabling the lag fix (voodoo ext4 versions) flashing and going back to ext4 by deleting the disable-lagfix file or folder. The only time I had my phone to the point where only the download mode was the only option was a flash with a I-9000 rom that changed hardware assignments and my buttons wouldn't work (was sweating on that one , lesson learned). Still wasn't "bricked" though as it could be accessed by odin.

You're phone isn't bricked until nothing can be accessed and it can't be see period by the computer. Sign of this is no battery charging showing up on the screen with the phone off and the usb plugged in. That's when to worry as that is tone of the most basic functions.

Good point....that is right about being bricked. He was just in a position where he had to go back to completely stock....Start over basically.....

Actually, if his voodoo update.zip is still on the phone, he won't even have to do that. I edited my post to reflect that, kind of spaced it out at first.

Also, I believe you need to disable voodoo be fore you back up with rom manager as it does not understand the ext4 file system and the recovery-update.zip it makes will be useless, please correct me if I'm wrong. I keep remembering stuff after posting, hence all the edits. Oh short term memory, where did..... what was I saying?
