Help Why Froyo Why?!!?!!

Well i had finally got my Inc to a good working point then here comes froyo. I updated with excitement & immediately the horror. My 3g was gone & no internet. I did a hard reset & still nothing. Well i talked to Verizon & i was sent a new phone. Right away I was disappointed to see the new screen. Side by side I hated the new screen but realized it was still good.

Next I reload all my apps & contacts & hope this is gonna be great. Nope!

My internet is slow as can be, and the real annoyence is the fact that random apps like Pandora, four square, memo pad & other apps randomly open. This is killing my battery. I am really disappointed & seriously considering going to a less app based phone.

Can anyone help?

root has be dumbed down, to point and click. its as easy as counting to 3. literally.

I never thought I would root but it is so easy and so worth it. You can have your phone however you want.

I don't think rooting is the answer to your problems, particularly if you're unfamiliar with the process and benefits.

What I tend to suggest to end-users that I help is to first place the device in safe-mode and run it like that for a day to see if the issues subside.

If the issues subside, then it's a definite issue with third-party apps you have installed. My suggestion at that point is to perform a master reset. After the reset, load your apps one by one. By that, I mean, load an app and use the device for several hours. If it's working correctly, then install another one, and use it for several more hours. Do it in this manner to help isolate the trouble to a specific app or apps that may be causing the trouble.

However, if you do have issues while still in safe mode, then it is most likely the device. You can still perform a master reset and give it another another to see if clearing everything helps.

You can do anything you want to your phone, with the proper know-how. All the info can and is here. People will also help, either way, rooting will become your new hobby lol.

1. Power the Droid Incredible off.
2. Press the Power button to turn it back on.
3. At the second HTC Logo screen, press and hold the Volume Down, Menu and the Optical pad at the same time.
4. Keep holding all 3 buttons until the device fully boots and you see Safe Mode in the lower-left part of the screen.

In all seriousness, that is a little ridiculous to get a phone to work properly. I know you need to do it, but that is a pain in the ass.

It's a PITA, I agree.

But it's a hell of a lot better than suggesting to a person who probably doesn't even know what Root is to root their phone.

Disclaimer - I have a rooted phone. So I am not bashing root.

However, it would NEVER be my first suggestion to someone, especially someone who isn't familiar with the process. And while Unrevoked makes the process so damn simple a monkey could do it, the real damage to be caused is AFTER you root. Having that kind of system access can be very damaging when you don't know what you are doing. There's a very good reason that phones don't come with that sort of access and doing it will void your warranty. You accidentally delete just 1 important system file and you have bricked your phone. And since by rooting you voided your warranty, you might be SOL on getting Verizon to replace it.

You can do anything with rooting. That can be a blessing in the right hands. In the wrong hands, it can spell disaster. If this is the route you decide to take, do your research! Don't just root it and then try to wing it from there.

You can use Open Home without rooting. You just have to pay for it. It's nice because you can you get theme's that are already made for you. But if you want free options, check out Launcher Pro or ADW. They are home screen replacement apps that are completely customizable. You'll have to do the customizing yourself of course, but at least it's free and it'll be exactly the way you want it.

Why you say "open" do you actually mean open (as in pop up on your display) or just show up in the task list?

If the latter, it's not a problem and it's likely not draining your battery. What do these "open" apps show for CPU consumption?

Agreed.

But it's a much better alternative than rooting a phone, finding you still encounter the same issues, and having a store refuse to process a warranty replacement because the warranty has been voided. Then again, you might be able to get a rep over the phone to process the warranty. Then again, you might also encounter an equipment charge (full retail value) on your bill when they process it at the warehouse and find the device is rooted.
