Help Google Calendar Sync

This might be a solution to your issue, if not let me know glad to help:

There is a offline preloaded calendar on the phone which is selected by default on the phone. While your creating a calendar entry you will see that it says: Calendar / My Calendar. This "My Calendar" will not sync to your Google Account. Also this "My Calendar" is always selected by default and can't be deleted.

So the solution is to select your "Googled Sync Account" under the Calendar section while creating the entry on your phone.

I am doing what you talked about above. What I am having an issue with is that only one of my google accounts calendars are available. The second account does not give me the option for a calendar (in the sync options). Just trying to figure out how to add that second google calendar (and make it sync)

I really hate that too; it would seem that the Google calendar would be the default or @ least hav an option to select it as default.. thatz probably 1 of my bigger complaints as I don't hav any issues with anything else...

I have two google email accounts. I have both of them setup on my Epic however only one of the accounts gives me an option to sync the calendar? Any ideas why this is or how to add the second calendar so it will sync also?

As far as I know, you can not sync two different Google calenders. That is why only one of your accounts shows a calender.

After much research I found a way. I am using Jorte calendar and I got it to work by this little 'bypass' to the big bad google:

I'm sure if you subscribe to a sports calendar through google calendar it doesnt sync due sharing agreements.

Go to MarkThisDate.com and import your chosen calendar into google and it works. This is how I got the Pens and Caps and Colts and Ravens schedules to show up on my Jorte calendar. Oh and I uninstalled/reinstalled Jorte just to make sure I was good to go, but this step may not be necessary.

Any thoughts on sync'ing with outlook other than the $40 DejaOffice software?

What I do for my work calendar in Outlook is use Google Calendar Sync to get it to Google, and from there sync with the phone just like all other Google calendars. It's not perfect, especially if you have LiveMeeting-created events, which do not sync unless you change their class, but it works well enough that I'm not willing to pay for another solution.

Gsyncit works, $15 one time fee. I've been using it for about year and it works well. Take a look at it http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/index.shtml

Does this handle appointments with a class other than standard meeting appointments, like Live Meeting appointments? If so, it might be worth the one-time fee of $15 (much better than $40, which I'm not swilling to pay). I actually don't want it to sync contacts, because I want to keep those separate, I assume it can do that? Syncing tasks would be OK, but certainly not a requirement. I use Outlook for work tasks, and Toodledoo for personal tasks, so they are already separate anyway, and I don't plan to merge them. I don't see a native app on the Epic to sync Google tasks to anyway, but I'm sure there's an app on the market.

It syncs the calendar, but I'n not sure if it handles the categories. It does handle whether it is private or not. You can set it to only do the calendar only if you like. It will do tasks, but I don't use that. I would contact the vendor to see if it will do as you ask. It does have category section in the set up, I've just never used it. Here is the screen shot of that settings page, maybe that will help.

After looking more closely at the setup and settings pages of Gsyncit, I think it might be able to work for you, but you may have to be creative. You can set up a sync that only syncs your "live meetings" to a "Live Meeting" calendar that you created on Google Calendar's. Then you would do the same thing with another category. As far as I can tell, Google Calendar doesn't support categories. I think this would be a good work around. I think you can try Gsyncit as a trial, but I'm not sure if the trial version would have all this functionality. There are a ton of sync options, I have only played with a few, but after looking at the settings, I may try to set it up like this too. You can set up multiple sync parameters.

Robert, after it is set up, it creates a sync button on your outlook page, you click it, and your on your way. I didn't even know google had free option, but by how often the developer updates Gsyncit, I would assume his solution is better just for the mere fact of how much time he spends on it. If it wasn't better, why would anyone pay $15, unless they are a dumb ass like me that didn't know there was a free option. For me it has been money well spent, but I haven't tried any other similar software to compare it too.

Thanks for all the information! I may give it a try. $15 isn't much money, if it means not having to manually go in and convert conferencing requests to the proper class for the free sync to pick it up. Sometimes, you get what you pay for :).

I had time today to test Gsyncit, and it works as I thought above. You set up another calendar in Gmail, and set a up a category in Outlook (I used the same name). Example: I run a business with around 50 employee's and I have their vacation's scheduled in outlook. So what I did was set up a Google calendar called "Vacations" and an outlook category of the same name. I set a sync to sync only that category to the Vacations calendar. I set up another sync to sync everything but the "vacations" category and have everything else sync to default Google calendar. You can set up several like this. It's also two way (if you want), meaning if I add an appointment with my phone and select to add it to the "vacations" calendar, it will be assigned to the "vacations" category when it is synced to Outlook. It only took about 5 minutes to set it all up, once it's set, you just hit the Sync button created on outlook every time you want to sync it. This is very slick. This is a great option for $15, and no I do not have a finical interest in it.

Just to follow up, finally got around to trying it out today, and it does in fact sync LiveMeeting requests out of the box. Looks very flexible and powerful, so I went ahead and bought a copy. Thanks again for the tip! The lack of LiveMeeting sync was the biggest persistent problem, but in general Google sync is just not very reliable or robust, so I'm looking forward to having a better alternative.
