Trade Epic for Evo? Why Not?

My 30 days are counting down and I'm not real confident Sprint & Samsung will fix the 3G upload speed bug (I know about the press release) so I'm considering switching to the Evo. I know about the screen difference and keyboard (and Evo's Froyo sweetness) but what are the other Evo weaknesses?

Please let me know why I shouldn't switch to the Evo.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

The Evo has a lower quality screen display. There is also no physical QWERTY keyboard. Both cameras on the Evo has more megapixels, but megapixels aren't the only thing that makes a camera good... but you can record VGA video using the Evo's front-facing camera, while you cannot on the Epic unless you use another app like Qik to do so. The Evo also lacks DLNA support, having HDMI-out instead.

It's ups are that it has Froyo and also the HTC Sense UI is superior to that of the Epic.

To be honest, the 3G upload problem doesn't bother me. I just recently got 4G in my hometown but before that, I never uploaded anything but still photos over 3G, since it's painfully slow even without the upload cap that the Epic has. I uploaded videos and such only via Wi-Fi until I got 4G. In fact, both devices won't allow you to upload large files over 3G, I believe. I think you must be on Wi-Fi or 4G to do so.

don't go backwards lol . I went from evo to the moment awaiting the epic and it sucked. I should of kept the evo and purchased the epic at best price on ebay or craigs list and then sold the evo for the difference. after the amazing speed the evo had using the moment was frustrating lol .. I'll keep the epic till the next best thing comes out

As an EVO owner, we had our 30 fps cap removed with our last update yesterday, which seems to me to be much harder to do than the fix for upload cap on your Epic. I find it hard to believe Sprint and Samsung won't fix it, since these two 4G phones are their main competition to the iPhone (and Samsung is doing a major push to take their market share). The bottom line: These are both great phones, and have different strengths. I personally prefer the EVO (my boss bought it for me... I could have chosen anything, even the Epic or iPhone 4). But, the Epic is really great too, and it might take a couple of months to work the kinks out (like the EVO, which is perfect now, IMO), but I'm willing to bet they're already working on it.

The EVO has been out since June 4th. It took HTC over 3 months to fix that FPS cap. Sprint\Samsung JUST found out about this 3G upload bug (supposedly) and they have already announced that they will have it fixed in the next maintenance update. SO I would say that Samsung is doing a great job so far :D

really depends what you want, evo has 2.2 and working gps and uploads. it also has a crappy screen, although you won't really notice it unless you have the epic next to it. The deal breaker for me is the camera sucks on the evo and I bought my phone to take pictures of my baby and there is a huge difference between evo and epic pictures.

Just wanted to clarify - which camera are you saying is better, EPIC, or EVO?

Thank you!

For what it's worth, I have had almost no issues with the GPS on my Epic. The upload speed is another weird thing. One time, I uploaded a picture to Facebook and it went INSTANTLY, then another time, it was slower. I'd like to see a fix to the upload speed, but the GPS works fine on mine.

I've had short bursts of desire to switch to the Evo because the screen was bigger... but that's the only reason I would. Although you can't beat the Epic's super vibrant Super AMOLED screen.

I made the switch and I'm loving it. No more dropped 3g signals, solid email and a phone that simply works...even the GPS.

And now that the 30fps thing has been uncapped by HTC....

It simply feels and acts like a much more solid and mature piece of equipment.

Last;y....while I swore it wouldn't, that extra .3" diagonal screen real estate makes a huge difference to MY eyes at least when I'm doing internet browsing or work on this thing.

My biggest concern is the battery... and by the threads I have been reading on the HTC site... their battery life is even worse then the epics.

I was seriously thinking about switching until I went to that site and and read about all the battery problems..

no thanks.

what were your reasons for buying epic over evo to begin with? isn't that enough?

I'll call BS on the GPS thing, you think it works, but it doesn't, mine locks great, but the accuracy is still crap, mine says I'm outside my house when i'm inside my house and the thing is locked with 5 sats. it has an accuracy problem, its off by probably 50 feet most of the time.

50 feet? how did you get yours to be so accurate. Mine shows me almost a full mile from where I actually am right now....heading to the sprint store after work to swap for an EVO.

if its showing that then its not locking on sats. mine is pretty close, sometimes dead on, but other times it has me in my yard when looking at satellite maps or in my pool when I'm in my house and gps status is locked on 5 sats.
