Question about rooting but keeping stock rom

I really like the one click root and how easy it is to root your phone now.
I want to root my Hero but I want to keep the stock rom. If I do this will I still be able to get sprint and htc updates like the one that was just released (9/22)? or does the phone need to be unrooted in order to get those updates?
If it does need to be unrooted, is the unrooting process just as easy with the one click root method? Will I have any problems because my phone says "with google" on the battery cover? I have read that some people have the problem to unroot on "with google" phone but I am not sure if thats the case if you still have the stock rom.

I believe if you stay on the stock rom, if you apply the update from Sprint, it will unroot your phone

if the update has a root patch in it, yes, it will unroot you. something to keep in mind though is that just about every stable rom out for the hero has already fixed what the sprint OTA update SUPPOSEDLY fixes.

Im not sure what you mean about the "with google" logo on the back. All Sprint HTC Heros have android, so they are all "with google". As far as I know, some phones didnt have that logo on the back cover, but its nothing more than the paint scheme on the back. Whether it says with google or not, its the same phone

if you use the "universal one click method", unrooting is very simple. flash back to the original backup from nandroid, open the root app, and click "unroot". its that simple

I just installed the new Hero Maintenance release and things are better but I would still like to root to get rid of the Sprint Apps so I can install useful apps. Is there still an easy way to root this phone? Thanks

First thing if you like the the stock sense ui rom look then there are roms out there that keep that look but are just tweaked to boost performance. Devolepers are always one step ahead of sprint and there updates. I would seriously consider flashing a different rom because the stock rom kinda sucks. If for some reason you do still wanna keep your stock rom just like the .6 update im sure all the next updates will revoke your root.

The With Google logo is exactly what it is just a logo it has nothing to do with rooting. What are you trying to get out of rooting because you can't really get the full benifits with sticking with the stock rom?

Actually I just was updated to the .7 software. My question was can I still root easily? My first objective is to remove the Sprint apps and to get used to modifying the Hero. I would like to then continue on with a custom rom (CM6). I'm just reluctant to dive in all at once but probably will after getting as much info as possible.

I really hope someone can answer this for ya because I am wanting to do the exact same thing. I am only using the Hero until my upgrade (October) and then I'm giving it to my wife. I don't want anything too in-depth on it, so I'm just interested in rooting to get rid of the Sprint bloatware and use a cache cleaner. I was using Universal Androot and it was great, but I decided to do a factory reset and then install this week's update and start from scratch. Anyone know if they will update Androot to work with this latest update?

Maybe still to soon to know unless someone tries it, you can always try it and if you cannot root then you will know right away, then you can always flash back, the .6 build and then root with the one click from there, just make sure you back up what you need as it will wipe all once you do, good luck and report back if you do
