battery life fix updated

settings>about phone>system updates> then update PRL and profile. After I did this and restarted my phone it seems to have greatly increased my battery life. Just thought I would let you guys know.

How good of an increase are you seeing?

If you have it in airplane mode for 6 hrs... how much a drop in % will you see?

Currently with no usage and in airplane mode my phone drops 2-3% per hour which is the worst battery life ever.

I don't see how updating the PRL will have an effect on battery life while in airplane mode. PRL stands for preferred roaming list. I think what it does is tells your phone what the most efficient towers to use in specific areas. Meaning, which towers to use to get the best signal. I could be completely wrong about that, but that was how it was explained to me on the forum before. If you are in airplane mode, the phone shouldn't be using any towers. Also, if what I have said was true, not all people would see an increase in battery life as a result of updating the PRL, only those that the new PRL has identified more efficient tower locations. In any case, I don't see how it could hurt anything by updating it.

I get worse than that in airplane mode. I went from 41% to 36% in an hour. In airplane mode. Which wasn't much better than what it was idling not in airplane mode - 56% to 49%. Very lame.

How can it use 5% an hour in airplane mode? It's not even *doing* anything!

Everyone I have talked to with any phone in the galaxy line said the same thing I say, background data. This and wifi are the only thing I kill on my captivate anymore, my battery is lasting ALL day, And I do not use ANY taskkillers or battery apps. Background data on these things are down right murderous for some reason.

For us noobs - can you be more specific as to the settings?

thank you!

I get that battery life is a HUGE issue but why the reluctance to buy additional batteries??? You're buying apps to monitor and toggle and conserve, you're worried about updates, you're "dumbing" down a BEAUTIFUL phone with wicked features all in the name of battery conservation when you can get 2 extra non-OEM batteries plus a charger all for $8.99, shipped, from Ebay!!!

I did the research and asked questions of those who've tried out the non-OEM batteries and ALL have said the batteries are the same if not BETTER.

Yeah because it looks awesome when you have to stop what you are doing twice a day to change your batteries . toggling wifi and background data hardly seems like a task for me and the widgets are FREE.

Ok, I guess its just a matter of preference. I'd much rather have my phone at 100% functionablity and carry around a spare battery or two...course I'm a gurl, with a handbag :) ;)

I agree, I have an extra battery in my wallet (in a credit card slot) and it doesn't bother me at all, granted I have only needed to use it once its still nice to have ;)

Airplane Mode = no background data. And it's still using 3%-5% an hour.

I hate comparing it to the iPhone, because it's a completely different phone, but it's the phone I'm coming from. My iPhone can literally go several *days* in airplane mode. I'm keeping it around while I'm trying out the Epic, and even not in airplane mode, I'm only charging it every 3 days or so (I'm not using it, that's why it gets 3 days... but not using the Epic gets you about 20 hours).

I just din't see why there isn't a stock option to tailor background syncing. Why does it need to be on all the time. If I update something on the phone it should push it to the cloud. Otherwise I'd rather have it pull for two minutes once every two hours. Shouldn't need oujtside prorams to do it, and it doesn't cripple the features of the phone in any way. Heck, I'd take an SD backup a few times a day and then cloud sync on. The overnight.

I have tried this numerous times on my phone, and it always fails with an "internal error". I haven't pursued it because it doesn't seem like a huge issue, but at this point it seems like a legitimate problem, considerig how many times it has failed. Anyone else have that problem?

This is a real Droid newbie question.... but is there a way to see the percentage of battery life remaining? When I click on the battery icon I don't get a read out which I would expect.

Or is there an app to add the percentage remaining life view to the phone?

Thanks.

SwitchPro...battery indicator is a widget add-on option

try out juicedefender + ultimate juice. You can configure how often the phone synch's and even let the app control your wifi so when you move away from a place with wifi it will disable wifi. You can also set it to prefer wifi instead of background data. My battery lasted about a day before ultimate juice now it can be up to 2-2.5 days depending on my useage which is pretty light 5-10 texts a day, light internet use, maybe a video or 2, facebook, and emails 5-10 a day.

sidenote: SysTray Monitor is a nice app for seeing the %age the battery is at, it places a box in the upper left corner with the %.

I was going through 3-4 batteries a day. Rooted, loaded viper rom trinity , and went 14 hours of my normal use on 1charge. Heavy use got me 10.5 hours with everything on including live wallpaper. Wish I had dine it before ordering the extended capacity batteries, oh well should get a good day and a half with those.

Hi jmichaelsk,

I am about ready to do this. I put in the Seidio extended battery into my Epic 4G and I still can not get through an entire day. Maybe from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm....but not the entire day. All I want to do is charge my phone at night and have it run ALL day. Is that too much to ask of these phones? I spend my whole day mothering over battery power looking for places to charge this thing. My old blackberry could go 3 days without a charge.

**Could you please detail the steps you took to root your phone? I am worried about doing it wrong. Can you comment on any security issues one might have after doing this to their phone? Thanks much.
