Anyone else still on 2.1?

I just got my phone today and am still on 2.1. I'm waiting to see if some of the bugs get worked out! I'm on the road 3-4 weeks at a time and my phone is my lifeline to the world! Also I'm not sure how to do it or if I need to do a factory reset as I have downloaded a few apps. Different people are saying different things. So I'm kinda lost at the moment!

OTA updates typically are pushed automatically to your phone and they usually just install unattended. This particular update should not do anything specifically to your phone, like delete apps or send you back to ground zero - although there are some that do (I'm updating a bunch of HTC Heroes at work, and the update they are getting does indeed wipe the phone back to a factory reset!). This one doesn't do that, and all you settings and apps and home screens should be unchanged

Now, having said that, I chose to err on the side of caution and used an app I bought called MyBackup Pro, to backup my apps and phone settings. But since the backup is on my SD card, not sure that would do much for me if the phone gets bricked! I also use App Brain to manage my apps, so even if the phone goes completely tits up, I will still have all my apps available to be downloaded and installed once again. A pain, to be sure, but at least they'll all be identified and ready.

But it would seem that the vast majority of these downloads have gone smoothly, resulting in a single reboot, during which the install completes without issue if the phone is left alone and given time to come back up on its own. That's my impression, anyway.

I have to wonder though if the OTA has been suspended temporarily though, until a quick fix is engineered? Probably not, and I bet if I went and checked if an update were ready, it would find it. Think I'll still wait though, and see what happens.

I'm not sure if I'm patient or just skeeeeered!!! LOL! I just have it in my head that if I leave things to happen as they are designed to, they work better. I'm not much of a tinkerer or tweaker.

I am starting to get a little anxious for it to go ahead and push, though. Kinda like getting a shot at the doctor's office - the anticipation is usually far worse than the actual event, and hopefully it won't hurt a bit!!

I updated from a rooted 2.1 DX to the new 2.2 with no problems. I had a bunch of custom apps and widgets so I don't know why so many people are having problems, most of them still worked too. 2.2 definitely fixed some annoyances for me, the app drawer loads much quicker and scrolls very smooth. That alone was worth the upgrade. Plus, the ability to see Flash websites is awesome. However, I did notice that boot time is a little longer and the home-screens lag during first load. But once every thing is loaded, Android 2.2 is much faster than 2.1. I am now running OTA 2.2 rooted and every thing works perfect. Although I did have a bit of driver problem at first but once that was sorted it only took about 5 minutes to reroot.

Just my two cents and first post :p

I have run into very few problems myself. When I pulled the OTA, my music player started freaking out and the phone would "forget" how to play MP3s, ruining my ringtone. I also had a Browser glitch. I did a factory reset and it fixed almost all of it, except for the MP3 thing. I did a second restore, and it's running as smooth as butter now.

Also, if you have "Back up my settings" and "restore automatically" checked in Privacy, then it's too easy. I hit restore, waited a minute, it booted back up, activated it, then it downloaded all my app (yes, free ones) and restored the majority of my settings.

OTA got me I had been exiting out of it but it finally got me so of course I have now lost my root which lost my WIFI tether which was the only reason that I was using root I hope this gets fixed sooon I don't think a update like that should be forced on anyones phone unless they want it.

If the network could handle the phone with no problem and I was not haveing any issues I should have been able to do without untill ready damn I feel violated

why is everyone hoping things get fixed, there really isnt much wrong with the update, aside form the messaging but, which is getting fixed soon anyways. 2.2 is amazing and you will love your phone so much more once you get it. so just get it, and remember, the people who arent having issues arent posting about it, just the people who do. So download the OTA and enjoy!

MP3s are broken. My phone is my MP3 player. That's broken to me, and something that needs to be fixed.
