Root a few n00b q's

Hi guys!


I've got a desire, locked on orange, running 2.1


1) Menu > Photos and there is no link to picasa?! Why? Is it possible to add one please so I can sync my picasa photos with my phone?

2) To unlock the phone, you drag the thing down right? Is there any way of installing something which allows you to drag the thing horizontally like the iphone?

3) Whats the point of installing these ROMS that every1's talking about? Isnt the one provided by htc good enough? WHere can i get more info about these plz?

1) check Menu-settings-accounts (i think that's where it is). You should be able to add accounts, so you can add picasa

2) Not lastly if you have a #3
You can install a custom rom that has the vanilla lockscreen, which is side to side, like the Motorola Droid.

Actually, number 2, you could install widget locker. It replaces the HTC Lock screen. You can also use it to add widgets to the lock screen.

Unless you have the NEED for a custom rom, theres no point really. If you have no need right now, then just stay as you are. When you identify a need later on, come back to us.

This is all correct.
However, i would just say that no one has a need for a custom rom, as much as we have a need for an android phone.
But it's just cool if we do

Fixed the typo !


I checked Menu-settings-accounts and i've got a google account setup already. However there wasnt any option for adding picasa. Is there any other way around this?

As for installing a custom rom, i heard that you first have to unlock and debrand your phone. Is that true? (As mine is locked on orange). Also is there any rom that u would recommend which has the vanilla slide (as this is my first time)?

You dont have to debrand but you would have the orange splash screen if you didnt, regardless of what rom you choose.

From what I read, I hear there is an issue with orange where if you install a custom rom, you get a network locked error or, although I read there may be a way around it. I will try to dig it out.

Defrost is my favourite vanilla rom. Bare in mind, vanilla = no HTC apps or widgets of any kind.
