Been reading on here and it seems everyone has 2.2 i have had the x since maybe the 2nd week out and never got the update? Telling me that many people root. I am after the better battery life. my original droid I could go over 2 days without charging. I miss that i need to charge every night and i barely use my phone

I recommend just dropping into a local Verizon Wireless retailer if there's one nearby. Let them know what you're having problems with and they should be able to update the phone for you.

How does one deodex the OTA rom? I read that people are having problems with xUltimate.
It worked ok for me. It was a bit tedious and required redoing a step or two sometimes, but it worked alright.

At first, I kept getting told there was an update. I didn't want it and refused by saying "later".

Then it finally downloaded and asked me if it could be installed. I said "later" again. Then it installed itself without my permission.

At this point, I suspect everyone has the update.

i do that and it says that it is unavailable at this time it has been on my phone for a couple weeks now

Before taking the DX over to Verizon you might want to try doing a reset on the phone. The reset will wipe all of your settings, contacts, app's, etc. so save everything you can and document the rest. Once reset you'll need to set up the phone with your GMail address and a call to *228 option 1. After all of this is done I'd suggest trying to download updates. If it works then add back your apps, contacts, and settings. If, on the other hand, it still won't download the OTA then I'd recommend calling Verizon tech support.

Being that it sounds like you've had the phone for a while I don't think that the store will replace it for you. My guess is that they'll recommend you call tech support.

You can prevent automatic software updating by renaming the file extension of the updater APK. I'm not sure of the exact filename for the DX, but I think it's something like Updater.apk or BlurUpdater.apk.

Personally, I've noticed significantly better battery life. It may be the new icon that I'm using to display what's left of my battery in my notification bar, (doesn't show percentage. I now use a circular "bars" pattern) giving me a placebo effect, but I think it's actually a bit better for me.

Turn off sync Social by WiFi only. That will fix your update unavailable error.

Settings / Data Delivery / Social Applications / Uncheck Sync over WiFi only.

You might need to reboot after making the changes. I had the same issue and this worked for me.

Gotta ask, but are you sure you don't have the update already? It was pushed to the phones, and if it got pushed to yours while you were sleeping or not paying attention to it (mine got pushed while it was in my locker, and I came out from break and it was 20% downloaded), it may have downloaded and installed it automatically. After the download, it asks if you want to install it, but it also has a countdown timer where it automatically installs it if you don't do anything. So go to Menu-Settings-About phone and see if it says you have Android Version 2.2 or not. I'm guessing you have it and didn't realize it got installed.

Apparently not everyone's phone is updated automatically...I just updated mine, and had to do it manually by going to Settings, about phone, and System Updates. I confirmed that I was running v. 2.1 prior to the update.

BTW, the update takes A WHILE to download...it took mine over 8 minutes, and then it has to install (another 5 minutes), and then restart (about 2 minutes). Therefore, if you're expecting an important call or text, I'd wait to do this.

Now I can't wait to see if this effects my battery life...the jury still seems to be out on this.

This sounds like a high possibility. Though between the new lock screen and stuff you would think he would know somethings different.

Thanks for the suggestion. Your settings change worked for me and I was able to download 2.2.
