Let's Be Honest About The Battery Life

We've all heard the horror stories (I just bought my Desire and the battery lasts for about 4 hours!!) and the fanboy wankery (I get at least 3 days of heavy use!!) so today I unplugged my Desire at about 6am and set off for work. It's 7pmish now and here's some stuff you may like to look at.

I have 3G disabled, Sync on manual, no "live" widgets (just wifi and bluetooth) live wallpaper (nexus) and screen brightness on auto.

Here's the battery status (rounded up from 25% according to Battery Info in the Testing app)

The breakdown of usage:

My phone was idle for 9 hours and 45 mins:

The Display was on for a mere 2hours and 46 mins

With only 1.5 hours of wi-fi:

And 30 mins of calls:

So, that'll be less than 3 hours of usage.

Any thoughts?

So that's 3 hours spinning a 1GHz processor at close to 100%. On a handset the size of a pocket-calculator. What were you expecting ? Magic ? Try it on a lap-top and see how long you get.

I do think you've probably got an app on there somewhere draining the battery but since you haven't given us your Android Usage breakdown or Partial Wake Usage I can't really guess.

FWIW my Android System % is usually a lot lower than my Cell Standby or Phone Idle and I leave wifi and 3g (and GPS) on constantly. By 7pm from a 7am unplug I'll have about 75% left (but I'll have done less than 1.5 hours of web-browsing).

Have a look at the Partial Usage (#*#*4636*#*# or Spare parts) and see whether there's something keeping your phone busy when you're not using it.

Wonder what the response will be IF someone happens to post up usage stats that fly in the face of the "Normal" crap battery brigade

It would be awesome.

Nope. I was expecting to get more than 3 or 4 hours use out of my phone.

Have a look at the Partial Usage (#*#*4636*#*# or Spare parts) and see whether there's something keeping your phone busy when you're not using it.

I had to reboot about 30 mins ago due to headphone jack not registering headphones. I will Keep an eye on this and report back in 24 hours or so.

Had the same thing my first week.

Had mine 5 weeks.

Turned on my phone at around 8 this morning and have 90% left.

Don't get me wrong, I have 80-90% left if I don't use my phone. How do your usage stats look compared to mine?

i've never understood the whole "battery life" obsession.

when i'm at home, my desire can be charged via a plug socket.

when i'm at work, my desire can be charged via the USB socket.

when i'm in my car, my desire can be charged via the lighter socket.

when i'm out and about, my desire nestles in my trouser pocket and warms my cockles.

(either that or i've forgotten the damn thing because its plugged into a charger somewere.....)

If you download activity express you can go into each app running and see its UID so you can identify what UID 10025 is

Struggling how to identify UID 10025. Could you help?

UPDATE ok, I was being a moron. It was Handcent. Which I have installed and uninstalled in the last two hours. It seemed to go a bit mad for a while.

The Desire has a semi-conductor/chip in it not a hard-drive ! NOTHING MOVES IN IT !!!
