I am as careful as the next guy, but my phone fell literally maybe like a foot yesterday and the screen has a crack from one corner to the other diagonally and the screen is also scratched. I've only had this sucker for couple weeks and now in order to get one without the scratch and crack I would have to spend another 89 dollars.

:( Damn dude that sucks. Did it land on a hard surface? Im kinda wondering what a screen protector would have done in your case? Perhaps a rubberized case might have absorbed some of the shock but still weird angles and what not.

WOW!!! Peeping Tom!! That BITES... soooo sorry to hear. And now my La La Land bubble has been shattered. Ignorance "was" bliss.... Let us know how VZ handles it, and keep a chin up!

Well I went in and explained the situation nicely and he basically just told me to call the insurance and it would be the 89 dollars deductible.

Oh and i also said, on the videos the guy scratches the gorilla glass with keys and bags of screws, etc then drops if from his head level 20 times, and the thing comes out perfect. Then mine drops literally a foot from the ground, so it's not even a hard landing, and the screen cracks from one corner to the other and there is a scratch near the crack as well.

What a joke.

It bothers me a lot, but I am thinking about just keeping it the way it us unless it starts giving me problems. Pretty much sucks though.

yeah, scratch resistant != scratch/shatter proof. Gorilla glass is durable but it's always a good idea to add another layer of protection.

I realize it is not scratch proof or shatter proof, but it's not like it fell out of my hand when i was standing up, or even my pocket. If i had to make a real guess out far it fell it was probably right at MAYBE 2ft off of the ground, maximum. I actually wasn't even worried about it since i had my case on the back, then i picked it up and noticed it.

Not to relive the incident but what surface did it land on? Concrete, asphalt?

If i remember right it was either cement or concrete. Next time I am around there I will look and see what it was.

I would have been mad still if the drop was longer and it happened, but i was both mad and surprised at the depth of the scratch and the length of the crack from such a short, and what looked like not that hard of a landing.

How's it goin' peepingtom?? Thought of you a lot today... such a bummer... was hoping there would never, ever have to be a thread devoted to "show us your cracked screen" on here...:(

I found myself hardly even picking up my phone today!!! .... was paranoid I'd drop it... and i TOTALLY left it in this case thing that I have until I was safely sitting on my couch at home... I dropped my lg dare too many times to mention... that thing was indestructible ... remember my "gloves in the lap" scenario?? well... my galaxy is NEVER gonna see the likes of my lap, I'll tell you that much.

hope you're doing okay... I think I can speak for the forum that we feel for ya!

Hmm - I have dropped both my wifes and mine this past week and not a scratch or crack.

We both have the Verizon Gloss Silicone cases maybe that added additional protection.

They both fell about four feet and hit Hardwood flooring........and landed on its side...not the face.

Come to think of it..... I better stop using the wifes phone with my butter-fingers.......lol.

Mind you i have a case, but no screen protector, but mine passed the first drop test with flying colors, i have it on a hook on my belt, which caught on my seat belt as i got into the car, sling shotted it about 6 feet out, from about 4 feet up and its still perfect. Maybe i got lucky, or maybe the OP was just really unlucky.

I also have the Gloss Verizon case. Have had it since the 2nd day i had my phone. I don't get it. I mean it barely fell and i have this 3.5inch crack along with a small deep scratch. I think it is destined for any phone i have to be broken in some way. At least this time it's just cosmetic and not function. My last phone (lg dare) never worked right from when i got it. Traded it in, next one i had same issue with, i gave up and just suffered through the 2 years of basically not talking on the phone and just using it for text, etc.

thanks, lol, hopefully it won't happen to anyone else here.

i am a neat freak and also always very careful with my things. my phone hadnt had a fingerprint on it for longer than 30 seconds since i had gotten it. now i could literally care less because when i clean it off all i see is that crack and scratch staring at me. i basically waiting for it to stop working right to give me a reason to pay another 89 dollars to get another one.

i remember when the deductibles on phones was like 50 dollars high end.

a fair way to do it would also be that for each month you pay for insurance, it kind of counts as like a credit for if you ever need to use it. so say insurance is 6 bucks a month, after 6 months you would only have to pay 53 dollars (89 - 36).. and obviously this would peak out at whatever the deductible is.... i can dream cant i...

Figured I would post some shots of the damage. It looks worse from different angles. I should have taken one with the screen actually on. When it is on it looks not as bad in some ways but worse in others. For example if it is a screen with a lot of dark colors you hardly notice it is there, but as soon as whites or bright colors come into play, the crack catches them and the whole entire crack looks like a rainbow.

I know from the pictures it looks like a long deep scratch, but it is a crack. you can't even feel it when you rub your fingers across it unless you actually use your fingernail, and even then it is just barely.

Sorry to hear about this, butI don't know that a screen protector would have saved your phone.

I just got a Samsung Epic 4g and put on a $20 screen protector yesterday. Played with it during the day, then peeled it off and returned the protector. Can't stand them - they look hazy and nothing like the feel and shine of real glass for me.

I've got a hard case and waiting for leather pocket pouch for moving it around. I wasn't going to get the hard case, but it fit like a glove and actually makes the EPICs slider easier to use and handle in my opinion.

The way I've been using it, I'd pay $600 cash to replace it should something happen to it.

On subject, My old Blackberry curve must be toughest phone ever made. I must have dropped and stabbed that phone at least 50 times. All the plastic around the glass was worn, chipped or fadded from abuse. I had this habit of spinning it in the air for fun and I've dropped it hard on the corners and faces. No glass damage what's so ever.
