Advanced App Killer vs. Advanced Task Cleaner

Can someone explain the diiference in these two apps. It looks to me that the App Killer is included in the Advanced Task Cleaner.

Don't use either. Most people will say there is no reason for a task killer with android.

yeah google got rid of the way task killers kill tasks in 2.2 so they don't work.
Cause they realize people don't know how/shouldn't be using them

I hear what you guys are saying, but here is an example. I still use ATK and when I start it up I read a free memory around 50k (used to be always around 100k+ with 2.1). After killing tasks the memory frees up to 160k and phone runs smoother. Of course short while later it goes back to 50k...

I have the same problem, when my memory gets down to 70 or lower my phone lags and what i'm working on shuts down "due to memory" but everyone says no it doesn't work that way but I've had this phone for 5 weeks and I know what it does.

Just because you killed some things and freed up memory doesn't mean it will use that free memory. If the system needed the memory it would have freed it itself. This is not a Windows machine it doesn't work like a windows PC. If an app hasn't allocated the memory for its use it isn't going to magically say oh look there is some more free memory I think I'll reallocate some memory for my use. It doesn't work that way. If your phone really was smoother and not just your imagination then it was most likely from a crap app that you killed not the free memory. Find the app and remove it you aren't doing anything good killing apps.

My phone is typically running with less than 70 mb of free memory and I have no problems. I'm not a tech guru but I know that Linux handles RAM differently than Windows so different thinking applies to using a Linux based device. I haven't used a task killer since prolly the second week after the dinc came out and I used it until the x came out and I'm a very heavy user, I'll web browse a few hours per battery charge. And I've never had an app shut down because of low memory.

Because I lose my webpage(s) and it says something to that effect on the pages. I've had it happen in Dolphin HD and the stock browser. Other apps habe closed and a similar message was on the screen but it mainly happens when I'm in a browser, this may just be because I use the browser 90% of the time I'm on the phone.

If killing task makes your phone run smoother then you have an app that is supposed to be running in the backgroud, but is not coded properly and is staying in the foreground. And in all actuality you want apps that you frequently used staying in a ready state in the background so that they open quickly and have the resouces available to them when they are needed. I'm curious what people actually mean when the say "my phone runs smoother". Do they mean the screens scroll faster? apps open faster?

For me the screens would change/scroll faster and the browser would run a lot faster. Apps that I frequently use aren't always in the memory but a lot of the ones I have never used or rarely use are in the memory, I'm rooted now so I'm gonna remove some of them but I gotta figure out which ones I can remove first. Also when I check none of the programs in my memory are running so its not something thats running that shouldn't be.

I can say it seems like its getting better/not as often but it still happens. Does it take time to configure it to your use? I've had the OTA 2.2 since about 8am the day it was released so 5 days.

Where do I find this "built in task killer"? Or are you referring to the memory management that is part of all Linux systems?

Dolphin HD has an App Killer plug-in.

Hold down the HOME key on any android phone then select your app.

lol don't do that. don't install any task killers at ALL.

if you want native task killing, go to

settings -> applications -> manage applications -> select your application you want to close and click 'force close'

running ATK on 2.2 will only drain your battery further and create more instabilities. its best to leave task killing to Android itself.
