Fascinate vs Incredible

This is probably not a fun discussion anymore but I had a few questions that I thought I'd like to hear your opinions on :

1. The new HTC sense came out and it IS good. I am not bashing Fascinate for this but you have to hand it to HTC for the new sense and also their plans for htcsense.com.

2. Hardware wise which is more powerful in terms of raw power?

3. I know Fascinate hasn't been in town for long to get enough ROMs but I look at the ROM list for Incredible - it gets me jealous. How long before we see some awesome unique roms on the fascinate?

I returned my Incredible yesterday for the Fascinate. The Incredible was by far the favorite phone software wise I ever used (and I have used almost all). The only drawback it had was the keyboard, it was very hard for me to type on.
I had the AT&T version captivate, and HATED EVERYTHING about it, but I played with the fascinate in store and it was allot better. I wish it had the same internal specs as the captivate (16gb internal memory) but I dont use that much anyways.
So far the fascinate is nice. The specs are pretty close, but I believe the fascinate will outshine the Inc once we get 2.2, and custom roms. I think the fascinate will outlast the inc because it is released on all four major carriers. I would imagine that in another couple of weeks we will start seeing the custom roms.

Totally agree, 100%. I traded my Incredible in for the Fascinate because the hardware felt cheap to me. I hated the rubbery back. The Fascinate feels like a better phone and once Froyo comes, this is gonna be a beast

These phones are too dissimilar to compare. It's that simple. And I'm not being critical of your post. It's just a fact. I had an incredible, it was very nice, but I didn't like the keyboard. That doesn't mean there was anything wrong, it just didn't suit me.

I have a Droid X, Droid 2, and Captivate presently. Of these three my personal preference is the Captivate, but that was only after I optimized it to run 2.1 the way I like it.

My Droid X is a good phone also, but has some issues that I find bothersome, like the rather dull TFT display when compared to the brilliant and crisp Super AMOLED of the Captivate.

I also prefer the implementation of Swype on the Captivate. It's the killer app for me. Coming from BlackBerry's a year or so ago, I never thought I would enjoy a touch screen keyboard and I didn't until Swype. Those who dislike Swype are most likely the ones who have not made a proper effort to learn it, which ironically only takes about 20 minutes. On their site they have 2 minute videos that show you how it works. That makes all the difference in the world. I'm now really fast and it's fun. Faster than any BB I've used. And I handle loads of email when traveling via my smartphone.

I love Sense, but I will have to give it to the Fascinate. It's powerful, and has a great screen without being too bulky.

My fascinate wishlist?

Rubberized back
Sense (I'm getting used to launcher pro and enjoying it about the same as Sense now)

Not much else. Both are great phones. But I would have to say that the Inc doesn't really beat out the Fascinate in much, if anything. Maybe a better size for some and the optical tackball.

1. The new HTC Sense isn't officially announced for the Incredible. We're all hopeful that it comes out, but HTC has admitted (through the Eris not getting updated) that they're only contractually obligated to release one major update on their Verizon phones. Like anyone not named Apple, HTC has a habit of saying "Want our new OS/UI/Widgets? Buy our new phone!" I have a gut feeling that their next Verizon phone will have it, but we'll need to use custom ROMs to get it on the Incredible. Man, I hope I'm wrong.

2. In terms of raw power? Tough call, as there are so many variables. First, the 1ghz Snapdragon in the Incredible is 5% faster than a Cortex A8 (many people mistakenly label the Snapdragon as A8-based, but it's not). The Hummingbird is an A8 tweaked to offer 10-20% better performance with multitasking (think if Intel's hyperthreading, only not as good). So in terms of CPU performance, it's a push (but the Snapdragon is 65nm, compared to the Hummingbird being 45nm, thus, the latter gets better battery life). In terms of GPU performance, the SGX540 in the Fascinate absolutely destroys the Adreno 200 in the Incredible. The incredible uses 512MB of system RAM. The fascinate uses 384MB for system, and 128MB dedicated to the GPU. For today's use, the Incredible has the better memory configuration. However, keep in mind that Android 2.1 can only address 256MB of RAM, so we're not even seeing the Fascinate use all available RAM yet. I don't see either memory configuration being pushed by apps within the next year. Overall? It's a push today, with the Fascinate being a better gaming device, and overall more future proof with better battery life.

3. I probably won't be touching custom ROMs until January, so I can't help you here. I'm sure we'll see something come out.

Hey, I'm looking for help on deciding which phone to get- the HTC Droid Incredible or the Samsung Fascinate. I am on Verizon, obvioulsy. My thing is, I LOVE the HARDware of the Samsung Fascinate (Size, Super AMOLED screen, look of it, hardware specs) but I LOVE the SOFTware on the HTC Droid Incredible, mainly due to the HTC Sense UI. I was wondering what you guys would recommend for me, or if you guys know if it will ever be possible to have Sense UI on the Samsung Fascinate. I am not a big fan of the Touchwiz UI at all.

If its just the software that is tempting you towards the Inc, then definately get the Fascinate. There are so many ways to change how the phone 'feels' on the home screen, namely launcher pro and adw.
Personally what tempted me towards the Inc was the 'trackball' at the bottom of the phone. Not having that 'trackball' or a d-pad on this phone annoys me to no end, but the rest of the hardware kinda makes up for that.

Do you like charging your phones often? If so, get the Dinc. Seriously though, I couldn't stand how fast my Dinc died. My Fascinate is easily 2-3x more efficient with battery life, and I had the slim extended battery for the Dinc (from Seidio).

I disliked Sense, I actually like TW. But even if I didn't, I could easily use a different launcher as stated above.

You can get to the point where most stuff is google. Voice Search, the soft key. But the one that seems to linger in Bing is when you bring up the keyboard in browsing or text and then use the microphone button. Still there are ways around most of the Bing inconvenience

So that has been the main thing I'm trying to get more info on... don't have the Fascinate yet, but after all the rooting, Google fixes, renaming files, blah blah blah... anything you bring up the keyboard to type in a text box, the microphone for voice to text will go through Bing's technology and not Google? Bing seems slow, so this is a problem.

damnnn this is killing me i can't decide, I spent like 2 months locked on getting the incredible and then the Fascinate comes out. Been looking on every thread that mentions the incredible and fascinate and trying to get everyones opinion. I'm REALLY loving the look of the fascinate but I just get that cheap, toyish feel sometimes?

I have both...to me the Fascinate is much better.

I believe that is the case only for the stock browser, you can use a different browser like Dolphin HD and it will route through Google. If you do the root method, the soft key search will route through google search and voice. If you want to use the stock browser, just set google to the home page. I think people aren't realizing that this method only leaves bing active in the stock browser if you use the address bar, but you can still use google.com in the stock browser or use Skyfire or Dolphin HD if thats a big deal...and a lot of people prefer those browsers anyway.

I don't agree with the Dinc battery issue. Mine can go almost 3 days with basic use (texting, Flixster, Web, etc). I just got the SF yesterday and I only got about 18 hours, including overnite time. I did have a rooted/custom ROM (4th Wave) though.

I think your battery use it outside the norm with that device. I don't get anywhere near that with basic useage. If mine lasts from 6am to 8pm I am likely to open a beer and celebrate.

Yeah mine wasn't rooted, so I don't know if doing that helps or not. But it was a common issue with most Dincs. For me, using the phones equally, the Dinc would be in yellow by 5-6pm where as the SF would be at 60-70%. Mine would be moderate email/web browsing, a few phone calls and lots of texting, with a few just random navigating out of boredom.

I'm using the Wave ROM (rooted) and it's very streamlined. Maybe that's why. I dont know.

I just got the SF yesterday, had a full charge shortly before bed (then unplugged). I used it for web and Kindle reading for a few hours this morning and had to charge by noon. I did have the Samsung clock and LIVE wallpaper running and that may have had some impact.

I have had the Dinc the X and now the Fascinate and by far this device is the best hands down! The Dinc has a horrible battery issue and the X is plagued with too many issues to list but the Fascinate is a very smooth running device with no major issues.

The Fascinate has no major issues? What planet do you live on and what are you smoking? Perhaps you have missed several posts pertaining to the Fascinates issues and perhaps you have missed the posts about the Fascinates lag and jerkyness. The bottom line is ALL these devices have their own issues.

To the OP. I have been running the Fascinate side by side with my Droid X and my wife has been running the Fascinate side by side with her Droid Incredible for a bit now and we will be returning both Fascinates. It just does not measure up well to the other two. In our opinion it is the third best choice on VZW. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
Also keep in mind that all the Droids are running 2.2 and as of right now its still up in the air when the Fascinate will be getting 2.2.
