2.2 Came with no equalizer

Read about the root install, all sounds complicated. Why no equalizer? My bloody iPhone had one.

Yeah the stock mp3 player is pretty basic but if you want an equalizer use a music player called Mixzing media player.

and there are still people that have not read about features that are coming or not with Froyo 2.2.
when google developers will say that they are going to implement equalizer feature in the android OS then one can expect it to be on their phone, but since im not aware that anyone promised it to be on Froyo 2.2. with HTC sense ui, then dont know how anyone can expect it to be there.
on the other hand there are music apps that allow you to do that so search the market for music apps with EQ and you will be happy. however i cant understand why would someone want EQ (hope its not for use with desire's speaker ) but good quality headphones wouldnt need it anyway as bass and treble and other sounds more than perfect through SE mw600 bluetooth headphones.

Call it a straw poll, whining or trolling, either way I see many people want an equalizer on many forums. Hopefully the developers see the numbers and it equates to a form of priority of features.

I like the sound options a graphic equalizer gives.

Some of my old CD's, which have not been digitally remastered, are fairly poor in sound quality, the option to ramp up some of the channels would be nice.

I gave the MixZing app a try and it appears to do what I want, just need to play with it for a little while and see whether it is worth

In an ideal world that's true, but, in reality there are variations in mp3 quality, headphones, people's hearing, personal listening preference, types of music, ambient sound, the list goes on.

Due to the above, in my opinion, an EQ is desirable.

if the phone isnt ment to play music then why have such big sd cards???
i know some youse there phone for films but surely the most common youse of the 4 gig sd card is for music???

and i play a lot of rips from old tapes that were from oldskool raves from the early 90's.. these were never released on cd or digital format so since others have ripped to mp3 with diffrent setting's from the tape decks i find a equiliser would be a great help

i have a copy of MixZing on the pc that is for android so ill try it out later... hopefully it will help with the low volume of some of the ripps i pay a they seem low when i use the headphones on the desire

also i think this is the paid for version as i have no adverts...

all it seems to have is ways of makeing playlists and rateing songs and the bit that is ment to give recomendations acording to your songs witch probably be useless since all i play is hardcore rave music witch isnt mainstream music

When a track is mixed down, it is done so on industry standard monitoring equipment. At the time, yes this is how it is meant to be heard. However quality of device / speakers etc does not always replicate it in this way.

I see no problem adjusting my favourite tracks to a setting which I prefer.

the frequency it tweeks with eq does not change the hardware, it would just change the levels of freq which were normalised and shouldnt be changed

played with both of these and im yet to find any of the features of either good. both cause problems with the audio at mid and low level and also introduce popping at high volume even with the slightest tweek (unless you enable compression which then damages the over all audio as its dynamic)
Also the audio on the desire is not bad at all, i have a good set of sennheiser ear buds and the frequency response and clarity is not that different from my genelec 8030A's when running 320kbps mp3

and that's almost exactly what i wanted to say in my first post that it depends on what accessories you're using to liste to the music generated by desire's hardware: e.g. sennheiser, SE, etc or other good quality headphones; or hi-fi system which i can plug in with line-in cable and the sound i can tell is almost better reproduced than some other expensive equipment i tried with: eg. Samsung HWC450S sound bar paired with sony vaio cw series sounds a not as pleasant as same sound bar connected with desire. but i think it is due to winamp default settings being somehow not tweeked as good as desire's harware.

Sound is like colours: it can be warm, cold, distorted, etc. Saying you don't need an equalizer is just as naive as saying you don't need to calibrate your computer screen and claiming the picture is meant to be displayed that way. Seriously: that's ridiculous and wrong.

Every device you buy, will have deviation of perfection. Some screens will tend to be more blue, some more yellow, some more red. Some speakers will have more bass, will be tinnier, etc. Some mp3 players will exaggerate the lower tones or higher tones, feel colder or warmer.

THAT is why you have calibration. On top of THAT, you got pictures that have distorted colours - the white balance is wrong, the blacks are not pure black but dark grey, etc. With music, this is no different.

So if you claim that AFTER you have a potential distortion on the speakers AND device AND medium, it's not needed to do any alteration, you're living in CUCKOO land! Ideally, every song would need its own equaliser setting depending on the device and speakers/phones used but at the very least, you can compensate for your software/hardware.

Every studio engineer's ears differ, the sound quality of each album release from the same band are different. The quality of Our Lady Peace's Happiness Is Not a Fish is way better than all the other OLP's albums.

Not every band has Bob Rock behind the mixer. And yeah Sepultura rocks too.

in the case of the op that wants it to make the sound better of recordings from other media i can understand however there is yet a portable device like a mobile that can eq correctly. all they need is loudness.

as for the other stuff, I am yet to find a need to eq any audio i have on an mp3 that has been compressed correctly.

I EQ my music and master others music to sound as its supposed to sound as the creator/master of that song
it shouldnt be EQ'd and a good master takes into account deviations of system/quality
