Seriously considering trading my Captivate for an HTC Aria. As fast as this phone is, I truly believe its Samsung holding this phone back. Ive tried the roms, I've tried overclocking. It all comes back to Samsung has released sub-par user experience on a magnificent piece of hardware.

Other than the obvious difference in specs, any reason I shouldn't do this? HTC definitely has their crap together, and for what I do with my phone the minor speed drop isn't going to mean a whole bunch.

small screen, makes typing harder. wireless b/g, slower speeds on wifi. not a SAMOLED. doesnt run google earth or sky im pretty sure, its too slow to run them, you may want to check on it. games wont run smoothly at all on it, angry birds, fruit ninja, mini squadron are ones i have but if you dont play games you may not notice.

im alittle confused on what you think is holding this phone back, and im even more confused as to why you would go to an aria if you feel the captivate is held back, cause i know the aria isnt on the same level as the captivate but it may be the right phone for you, but i just dont see it

Saying the Aria is the second best Android phone on AT&T, isn't saying much.

I did a LOT of research into all the phones AT&T carries, when I decided to upgrade. I read reviews on the AT&T site, tech magazines and independent blogs. The common theme? No one, is/was impressed with the Aria. Lackluster performance, sub-par hardware.

So basically, AT&T has one really good Android phone... the Captivate, then a huge dropoff.

I considered it but the SAR level is pretty high relative to the Captivate. My son wants the Aria but as a parent I'm uneasy about letting him have it.

Honestly, if you are worried about SAR levels, just make a deal with him where he must use headphones for making phone calls. That get him much less radiation no matter what phone you use.

I've actually had an opportunity to use one for a day. While its not a phone that interests me, it is very good at what it was designed for, to be a less expensive simpler Android phone. In a full day of usage, it functioned very well and I would not overlook the Aria, its a nice alternative to the larger more complex Android Models.

Have you tried Cognition? I'm on 2.1.4 and my phone is awesome. There's no lag and the GPS is amazing now.

Actually the specs of the Aria are about in line with the iPhone 3gs. The Processor, the ram, etc.

The Aria accepts Micro SDcards and removable battery. The Aria will have NO trouble running Google maps, google sky or games designed for a moble phone. The screen is a bit smaller and it doesnt have the "super features" that the Captivate has (and doesnt fully use at this time). It is getting Android 2.2 (froyo) in november according to an article on HTCs website.

As far as relying on information people will give you on a Captivate forum, read user reviews on the AT&T website or other sites like Amazon and stuff. From what I see it still scores 4.5/5 stars or so on user reviews on other sites. And/or, go to the AT&T store and spend some time playing with one.

It seems to be a pretty decent mid-level Android phone. It doesnt have the SAMOLED, its 3.2 inches, smaller processor and stuff, but all the features work and it has FM radio. It's capabilities will be maxed when it gets froyo. The Captivate has the expandability up to at least Gingerbread (3.0) should Samsung and AT&T decide to give it to us.

Blatant fanboyism aside, the aria is a great phone. It is not the powerhouse that the captivate claims to be but honestly it is ATT second best android phone. Ignore the rudeness and get your aria

Not sure if serious but the Aria is an Android phone. A phone I actually considered purchasing but did not because the Captivate is much better imo. By all means if he wants to use the Aria go right ahead but don't complain about what you get. Yes if AT&T did not have the Captivate it would be the Aria for me.

That's the first I've heard of this....is it because the specs of the Cap are in line with what G-bread needs or was this confirmed somewhere else?

This has been known since July I think. Not Captivate specific but hardware specific.
You must have a cpu clocked at 1ghz or higher
The phone has to have 512 ram
and a screen size 3.5 inches or higher.

Which is why I waited for the Captivate instead of getting the Aria. We get Froyo and later on Gingerbread. Aria will never see Gingerbread unless hacked and we all know how that turns out sometimes.

Aria:
600mhz proc
256 ram

If you plan to get the Aria because you like it better than the Captivate, then I would say that's great.
But I noticed in your original post that you think Samsung is holding the phone back. If for some reason you think HTC is any better, then I can tell you from experience they are NOT.
HTC is AWFUL. Now, don't misunderstand me, HTC makes some good phones, but I mean customer service, updates, drivers etc...
I had the Tilt2, which suffers from a lack of drivers that HTC chose to ignore for years. There were even grumblings on various boards about filing a class action law suit about it.
I bought the Captivate (which I'm in love with) after years of owning nothing but HTC phones (WinMo), and I can tell you, HTC is no better than Samsung.

From my hands on experience the aria is a great phone.

basically its the 2010 hero/eris and improved greatly over those devices.

Saying this phone is second best against tge captivate is astonishing and it is saying alot.

The speed/processor is not a big deal because i really haven't notice much of a difference between them.

I will give you super amoled but its about the same as retina display...cool but that's about it

My personal hatred for HTC aside...i never had major issues with their phones except for build quality.

Everything seemed to work perfectly well on most phones aside from my webcam on my evo and sense enhanced the experience

As a multimedia device...the captivate works perfectly 100%

As a phone it performs fair

My captivate is on craigslist for 300 and im still using as an ipod(they should really make a galaxy s player because this thing is a beast)

I still use it but im mainly using my xperia.
1.6 or not..,my unlocked xperia is great and not many seriouz flaws(like my att one has)

I may keep my captivate but you should get a reliable device and with HTC behind it, the aria is a good phone...

I would like to.know what reviews that person read. Most i read speak highly of the aria.
