Help Annoying Stock Media Player Quirk

First off, I listen to long audio files (5+ hours) on my Inc. pretty much everyday. Ever since the the 2.2 update, if I pause the audio and do something else like open the web browser or an app; once I go back to the media player and press play, it'll restart the track from the beginning.

I know this is different from 2.1. I could even turn the phone off and on, and it would still hold it's place in the track.

Is anyone else out there experiencing the same thing? Am I stuck with this, or am I missing an option somewhere? I tried a couple different media players, namely Mixzing, but that too loses it's place. I'd really like to keep the stock player, mainly because the lock screen controls are so nicely integrated.

Thanks,
Chuck
Stock Incredible (non rooted)
2.2 w/factory reset

I know of myself and one other person who are experiencing the same thing. Its also not just limited to the stock player as you noted, any player does the same thing. I have tested it on mort player, double twist, and astro player. They all do the same. I think its a bug in the base media APIs.

Both of us also, do not use task killers and started experiencing it with 2.2

i am the other person kuykendallc is referring to. and i can confirm that audio files do restart if left for any period of time. stock player, doubletwist and mortplayer do this. 2.1 didn't have this issue and 2.2 does.
i have googled this bug and not really seen much about it. i am starting to wonder if it is a dinc thing?

Well, as misery loves company, at least I can take solice that I'm not the only one experiencing this.

My guess is that this is a part of Froyo code, probably in an effort to conserve battery/memory. I'm sure that it wasn't done with the media player in mind, but when an app is not "in use", I'm assuming it dumps the cache that bookmarks the last location in a given track.

If that's true, then I think we're out of luck until a patch is released (if a patch is released that address this issue, along with any other). If the command is embedded in Froyo, open though it may be, I don't think there's a means to change this.

Now, if this command is not embedded in the os and is a part of the media player application's code, then you should be able to port 2.1's media player (w/root of course) and fix this minor annoyance.

Any smart, android savvy people out there who can tell me one way or another?

I checked out Astro Player, and that thing is pretty awesome about keeping it's place in a given track. It even goes so far as to allow you to bookmark your place in a track. I'm not real crazy about the UI, especially the lock screen controls, but maybe it'll grow on me.

The good news is that the issue of losing it's spot in the track pertains to the audio player itself since the 2.2 update. So, technically, I should be able to port the 2.1 player and keep my beloved lock screen controls.
