Root VZB radio update on custom Rom's possible?

Hi everyone, well i was looking at the VZB update.zip and i saw this file /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script and i noticed this line in it:

write_firmware_image("PACKAGE:radio.img", "radio");

Knowing that with custom recovery/rom the update will fail, is there any way to get that radio installed?

If i make an custom update.zip with just that line in the file and the radio.img will it install?

the reason that im asking is because i don't want to brick my phone again trying to do crazy atempts like the last one. So if anyone could help answering me it would be much appreciated.

Seems like it'd work, right? If it was me, I'd try it. But I'm not exactly a good role model when it comes to keeping things not broken :p

I was under the impression that if you flashed Drellisdee's rooted signed VZB rom it installed the radio update. Then if you reflash back to velocity you retain this update as velocity doesnt touch the radio firmware

Hmmm something to think about I'll try it and see if it does update/keep the new radio after velocity install. I just saw your website and the drellisdee VZB rooted rom after I posted :p thanks for the share tho.

It is dangerous to flash the radio update so if you guys find it be really careful, and I dont know what's going on with drellisdee's radio update he posted, it didn't work for me. Just go back to complete stock, get the update and than flash back to custom ROM, thats what I did, works really nice. If radio update goes wrong your phone will be bricked for good so be really careful or play safe and get it from LG.

Well I couldn't for the hell of it get my stock back to the point where I could install the VZB update. I flashed the stock rom v8 and flashed the stock recovery and on update it stoped on boot update saying there was an error on verification. Something wrong with the boot didn't let me install it..

With that warning in mind, proceed with caution.

Download a copy of the radio update that I packed into a nice little update.zip here. Flash this in recovery just like you would a ROM. You do not need to wipe your data/cache prior to flashing. After flashing, simply reboot back into recovery and wipe your cache. If you do not do this, you will have issues.

Neither myself nor LG can be held responsible for any damage caused to your phone. I will not provide support for this.

Can that update zip be flashed with any kind of recovery? or just stock recovery?

After you flash back to stock you have to do a hard reset before doing the updates. (Found that out the hard way)

You did not flash the original LG recovery if you got an error with verification.

well Vmanisme I used the stock recovery everyone is using found here and the stock V8 from Rom Manager. I even tried removing the root from the thing before updating but nothing error every time. But its ok that device is a brick now :p and got another one tru vzw  so "round 2... fight" and thanks everyone for the support and hard work ;)

Just a note the Stock V8 Rom that's floating around is actually not a "stock" v8 rom from what i have read. It's actually built from a nandroid backup.

First I would like to say I really appreciate all the work trident has done thus far for the ally. My issue however, is the download of the new radio for custom recoveries;the link is unfortunatly broken. Is there an alternate download location at all?

Must be something wrong with the server. I'll fix it as soon as I get home.
