Root Power on Volume UP

A friend of mine just rooted the other day using the Root for Dummies thread, (the same as I used months ago), and loaded up Kayosfroyo 35-1. He is now attempting to flash nonsensycal 8.2 Black. Well he downloaded the rom but when he tries to power up the phone using volume up it just boots up regular. He doesn't get the options for Nand Backup Reboot Flash etc.

Anyone have a reason why this may be. Volume down works but he gets a different set of menu items.

That happened to me when I was using Kaos and XtrROM, what I do, is i power it off using Kaos' menu. When you power off, select Reboot, and go from there.

Yeah, for some reason we haven't quite figured-out (yet), volume-UP plus end/power doesn't always work for some folks. Perhaps its ROM-related? (edit: or better yet, phone-specific as eu1 indicated)

There seems to be differences between different Eris phones, possibly due to bootloader version.

No matter, though; note that the "other menu" (Vol-Down+End) has an entry for "Recovery" which takes you to the same place as starting your phone with Vol-Up+End : the recovery boot.
