is anyone else getting ready to ditch their dx? before I get the "you knew the phone was locked down before you bought it" lines, the dx was my 1st android phone and i really didnt get the big deal about a locked bootloader.

recently i sold off my old blackberry and a few things and picked up a droid incredible as my "backup" phone. since ive gotten it its become my primary phone and i havent touched my x. running aosp roms like cm6 and ruby while overclocked and flashing stuff left and right has made me truly appreciate what most of the android community except for those of with dx and d2 have been able to do all along.

i got excited for awhile when it seemed like any day the bootloader would be unlocked but that has kinda died down and birdman and others are now working on other things.

the prospect of running obsidian from cvpcs is exciting but that seems to be all to hope for.

basically im trying to talk myself into selling off my dx now while i can still get a good amount for it and saving that to put towards the desire hd or whatever the 4+ inch htc releases next.

anyone thinking about ditching as well?

As u can see some ppl are thinking about ditching. I'm not. When I first learned about Android phones I didnt know it could be rooted and run custom ROMs.

After running countless ROMs on my Droid 1, one day I just said forget it and ran vanilla Android again. Thats what I've done since. For me, I kept the X for the better reception. So the bootloader wasnt important to me. If running custom ROMs is something one likes to do, then I can see some ppl ditching the X.

And like D13, I still have my Droid 1, so if I wanna see some custom ROMs thats my outlet. That MIUI Rom may have me rethink my run vanilla Android stance...lol

I still use my Droid 1 to this day, I just cant make/recieve calls. Maybe I kept it and still use it knowing how open it was, maybe cuz it has good reception too and replaces my E815 as a back up phone with good reception, maybe its both.

But thats the great thing about Android phones, so many options to choose from if one doesnt fit u.

i was also thinking about ditiching my X for a incredible or a fasciante. but i have to admit the fascinate dev community is not good. since verizon waited to release the damn phone everyone works on the vibrant. incredible has a good dev community so i maybe will be moving to the dark side. and also i can pocket the change from the X if i sell the phone. idk im still thinking

not really i know it takes time to work on a locked bootloader device but how long?? nobody heard from lod about the bootloader and birdman tweeted he's not releasing anything for the DX until certain things get crack... how long do we have to wait... if this loader gets cracked then the DX is the best android verizon offers!

yeah, i have my dinc to play with but since its become my daily phone i think my x will just stay a paperweight. id rather get what i can for it now and then when the desire hd or whatever comes out i can ebay that.

i think ill hang on for another 2 weeks or so and see what progress is made if any. i dont think obsidian alone could get me to stay. its a shame because the x is a great phone thats is basically neutered. im impulsive and but ill give it some time and see.

The only thing the Verizon is offerning now that would make me give up my X is the Fascinate. I can't go back to something with less than 4" screen. I've went back to the stores and played with the Incredible. Its fast and all, but the thing just feels TINY in my hands now. Its like I'm holding an Eris or something. The HTC merge looks really good, but again its only got a 3.8 screen. If HTC or Samsung improve there radio, and if HTC will offer something on Verizon with a 4+ screen, I will revisit this. For now however, I am sticking with my X.

yeah I looked at he merge for a little bit, but if it has the same hinge as the g2 then no way would I be getting it. Also the smaller screen makes me not want it
