I have been a long time iphone user but didnt want to mess with the iphone 4's problems and went with an android Galaxy S (Captivate).

I love it, screen is great, camera is decent (not as good as iphone), phone itself is snappy, but it has its issues (GPS etc..)

My main problem now is that iphone has netflix and android does not.

How much longer will it be?

Im starting to consider getting rid of my captivate for an iphone 4.

I hate to go back down in size for the screen but, ive been using my phone to watch a lot of movies lately at the gym. I just sit on elliptical and watch while i work out. I can either rip movies to it, or watch on youtube. Youtube seems to be working ok, but its mostly old movies and they are in parts and resolution is often wonky.

Shoudl i hold out and wait? Should i make the switch? Its really a feature id like right now.

jon!

I'm also eager to hear the answer. In the meantime, try the tv.com app. You can watch full epis of several shows & also some movies, I think.

Well Netflix hinted at an app for the iPhone back in late March or early April this year. About 2 months later they announced that they were developing for the iPhone on June 7th and announced the app on August 26th. So it came out about 2 1/2 months after the announcement and close to 4 months after the hint.

To my knowledge they have not officially even announced an app in development for Android yet and it wasn't really hinted at until the end of June. Based off the iPhone development I would guess that we could see something around late October to mid November. Just to guesstimate.

So, on a related note, has anyone seen the Netflix app on an Iphone? Does it work well? Just curious hoping if it works well there, it will work well (or better) here.

I has it on my iPhone 4 and as long as you have good coverage 3G or Wifi (please no AT&T coverage jokes! I know is sucks in places) it works well. The screen is small and the navigation to browse titles isn't that great.

But it is a nice way to kill some time.

I have heard that the netflix on Ip4 only works well if on wifi. However, I too await android netflix.

I suspect it will be after December before we see something. I just wish they would allow you to view netflix on computers with browsers other than explorer. It would allow for an interim fix.

I use it through Chrome and Firefox all the time.

Buddy at work has it on his iphone 4, it works great over 3g, the picture is awesome and it even remembers where you saved your spot at if you were previously viewing the show/movie on the pc/360/wii/ps3. For free its hard to beat.

Free? I thought the cheapest plan was something like $9 a month.

Still not a bad deal, if you can afford it.

I use it on Chrome only, it stutters on my Firefox for some reason. :(

Ive tried both and it won't even try to load unless I run IE. And last time it gave me a notice about prefering IE8. which I don't have on my work laptop yet.

Yeah, but reguardless of the browser you use, non-Windows/Mac/iPhone users are not supported. Perhaps some time after the Android Client comes out Linux will be next on their list.

exactly, and going to netfilx with the android browsers gets me the same messages. sadly.

You may want to try reinstalling or updating Silverlight on your computer.

Silverlight for Linux users:
Moonlight

dang it looks like windows phone 7 will have this at launch!

Why google, why are you taking so long??

I WANT MY NETFLIX!!

If they dont fix this soon ill seriously be considering switching to a windows 7 phone or iphone 4

It actually doesn't have anything to do with Google. Netflix is developing the apps for each OS. They started with the iPhone and are apparently working on the Win7 version. The Win7 version may have been easier to develope because of the Windows and Xbox 360 versions that Netflix already has out there.

There still hasn't actually been an official announcement of an Android version. Although I did read something the other day about Google TV launching with a Netflix app. So at least we know that an app has actually been in development.
