I have heard that alot of users (especially AT&T users) cannot sideload apps on their Xperia, here is the solution.

The Sideload Wonder Machine?

I am unsure if it works as I don't really need it, but it was designed for people with Android Phones that do not allow them to sideload apps

You do not need to root your phone, all you have to do is install the software to your computer, enable USB Debugging, and make sure the USB is on 'charge only'

Then in the software, choose the .apk file that you want to install via your phone, then the software will install the app on your phone via the USB cable, so you don't have to install on your phone, because the software on your computer installs it for you :)

Like I said, I do not know if this works, but I've heard some positive things about it :) Hope I helped

Me too :)

I am on T-Mobile and there is only one thing (as far as i've noticed) that they have removed, and that is the ability to silence the camera shutter sound

Yeah - noticed Rosered had the same problem - totally useless thing for a network to remove - Moxier etc would have been a better idea :D

think in same post i mentioned getting mine at CPW - no carrier branding at all - 100% genuine Sony stock as intended direct from the factory and Google themselves

woooooop

Oit are you talking about my penchant for sneaky picture taking again!?:D

May I ask can you get a phone at CPW as an upgrade on an existing contract or is it only new contracts? I got a corker of a deal with Tmobile at renewal so I suppose I'll have to put up with my noisy shutter. But will store up the info for next renewal... June 2012, not long to wait.

Hiya hun (sneaky peaky paparazzi)

No Carphone deal with upgrades too - i generally phone T-Mob cust service to find out what the best deal i can get is, then do upgrade through CPW and it gets matched to what t-mob offered

get the best the network can offer without having to put up with their crap software ontop of Sony's ROM

If ya was in newcastle would suggest where to go and who to see lol

Is there really that much crap added to the X10 from the carriers?

Depends which carrier you have - AT&T for example won't allow you to install apps from anywhere except the Market - with yours i would imagine that you can only use a 3 sim card in it (most 3 phones are locked) again this is more add-ons from the networks

As mine is generic as standard i can put any simcard into it and my browser is standard - no redirect or nothing

I'm with 3 and all I got was the browsers home page set to 3 the rest was generic from SE like Moxier.

I've got a smashing app called Top Apps from Tmobile! Yes really need that when I have full access to Android Market. Got two browsers, why... god knows! And most importantly of all no silent shutter mode:eek:

You are quite right tho the rest is SE's rubbish. It doesn't bother me massively more frustrating that they can't just dish the phones out 'vanilla' and let us mod them as we want.

Oh well, trip to Geordie land in June 2012 then Mr Womble - you can sort me out and then we can go do some photography;)

I didn't have the Top Apps when i first got my phone last week, until I did a factory reset, then it appeared in the app drawer weird

at&t does not allow side loading, loads the phone up with a boat load of crap and just informed me that they have some special agreement with Sony (similar to Apple) that they will not give the unlock code for it.:(

I so wish they were not the only player in town for me.

I'm rooted so the phone is generic with moxier and a few other SE bits removed like face recognition and more so its even lighter :p

Plus I changed the default font to the "Android" logo font :D

With the above app? (not sure if it is the same as was posted before) you can sideload stuff like the HTC keyboard to AT&T phones or if you dont care about your AT&T warranty flash the phone with a generic X10a rom and be done with the AT&T stuff.

Think about it though, the phone is from SE so even if you flash with a generic rom its still a SE phone and you can make a warranty claim with them direct if it goes wrong.

Not the sort of thing you want to post openly in a forum - least of all one that the wife is reading lol

although to be fair she just laughed and said no problem as long as you take

Case, Screen Protector, In-Car Charger, Bluetooth Headset & Insurance

Does she work on commission in CPW then?:D Tell her 'Hello' from the wet and windy south east! If I'm nice to you for the next 18 months do I get mates rates!?

Yes thanks, that is the only way I can side load. It took about 10 times longer to sode load the HTC keyboard compared to my co-worker with Droid X on Verizon.

My phone is rooted and I did get rid off all the bloatware but now I have to figure out how to unlock it without paying a bunch of money.

at&t will send me a replacent phone before I have to send mine in and if my phone is completely dead, they will overnight it, so I am never really without a phone for any length of time.

As far as I know, I need to send it to Sony for repair/replacement and that has a minumum of two week turn around time.

So, I guess I don't want to lose at&t warranty, enen though I am ranting about them.

They are a necessary evil in my life. :D

I'm led to believe that in the States it doesn't work like that due to Carrier and Handset regulations - if the phone returned for warranty is not using software "as supplied" then it is deemed as out of warranty due to customization - regardless of whether its an SE ROM or not - This info is traceable by IMEI number when in repair centre

**NOTE** this info may be incorrect due to unreliable sources - particularly supermaket own brands instead of Heinz Ketchup hahahaha:cool:

You are very likely right on this. I am kind of just learning myself as I have typically used unbrandedy and unlocked phones in the past, at&t started giving really good prices and I got my first branded phone the BB9700 and then the X10. I was able to get the unlock code for my BB without any hassle, supposedly you have to be customer in good standing for at 90 days and travel outside the US, that was all the rquirement.

PS: Why are all you guys and gals, from across the big pond still up.? :D

Well not quite commission - but bonus scheme worked on how much profit she generates

"hello from geordieland **waves** :D:eek::D"

unfortunately the "mates rates" scheme that T-Mobile did run, was withdrawn in 2009 - however the saving grace was that all accounts set up on Advantage Plan (AKA mates rates) would keep it for life
