OK so I used the Droid 2 method of rooting and I am rooted successfully, my question is I want to start adding themes but I am unsure how? Can I download TEAM BLACK HAT to achieve this and if so what are some cool themes to use? also can I go back to the original theme at any time?

There is an easier step. For me the Black Hat hat deodexed 2.3.15 was sluggish loading, so I dumped it.

If you use this theme you don't need Black Hat, fyi.

The easier is if you go this page: 928Droid Themes for the Droid X

I'll enclose steps for you, modified from D13, who helped me through it. :)

Reprinted without pemission! ;)

so you are rooted and you want to run a custom rom

1. open up droid x bootstrap and press bootstrap recovery (you have to purchase these from the market) ;)

2. open up rom manager and press flash clockwork at the top

(3. open up the Black Hat app and download your Black Hat app)

3a. Or if you want the Black Glass X theme, d/l it and move it to a directory on your sd card.

4. open rom manager and press reboot recovery...this will reboot you into clockwork recovery

5. using the camera button and volume up and down navigate to backup and make a backup

6. still in clockwork go to mounts and mount the /system (if done correctly it should say "unmount /system"

7. use the power button to go back and then choose install zip from sdcard and find the tbh folder with the Black Hat zip inside of it. (if you're installing Black Glass X, go to that zip file instead and choose it. It took me 7 minutes of waiting at the initial boot up screen. This is normal. Don't panic like I did. ;))

8. choose install

9. when done reboot...done

Any way of flashing to 2.1?

(dumb quest i know)

from the OTA 2.2 the answer as of right now is no. when you upgraded to the OTA 2.2 it changed the keys and you cant go back... yet... I've heard thats being worked on though.
Now, if you are on one of the leaked versions of 2.2 and never did the OTA then yes, you can still flash the sbf back to 2.1.
again I will say, YOU CAN ONLY GO BACK TO 2.1 IF YOU NEVER DID THE OTA UPDATE TO 2.2
You will brick your phone if you try to flash back to 2.1 from the OTA 2.2

I would highly recommend 928droid's deodexer. It is extremely easy and fast, and it will install his awesome theme on your phone too (obviously you can use other themes instead, and he also has one that goes back to stock after you do the deodex). Just download the .zip, put it on the root of your SD card, use bootstrap to boot into recovery, install .zip from SD card, select the 928 file, reboot and you're done! Just did this yesterday. :)

Yes. Go here: 928Droid Themes for the Droid X

Then download " 928DroidBlackGlassX-DroidX-OTA2315-DeOdexEERR-THEME.zip" its the first link. This will take you from stock 2.2 OTA odexed to 2.2 deodexed with Black Glass already installed. If you do not want to use this theme, simply install a new theme on top of it (it will overwrite black glass) or use the same process to install "928Droid-BackToStock-DroidX22-OTA-Odexed.zip" also found on his website, which will get rid of the theme.
