Help How to stop phone from autolocking so quickly?

I'm loving my fascinate so far except for one really annoying feature (other than bing, of course). Whenever my screen goes off, the phone locks itself, and I'm forced to use the puzzle piece or the unlocked grid. This happens every time the screen auto shuts off, or when I shut it off manually with the power button. Is there a way for a non-root user to delay the autolocking to something like 30 minutes or so? As far as i can tell, there is no setting for it, only the screen timeout setting. Its annoying to keep having to unlock the phone, especially if I am driving. Anyone have any ideas?

I think what hrez2kx is getting at is that he'd really want there to be two 'timeouts' - one that locks the screen, and one that makes the screen go dark. That way, for example, he could set the screen to turn off at 1 minute, but the lock not to happen for 10 minutes. It would conserve power yet not be a nuisance, and if he leaves the phone somewhere it will eventually lock.

I think it would be a great feature, but do not know of any app that can do it.

On the plus side, at least with the HTC Incredible, this feature was added with the Froyo release. So maybe when we get Froyo it will be added too.

Pretty sure Tasker can do it -- if you program it to. Start with keylock off, but at the "Display Off" event, trigger a delayed task to turn it on again in X minutes if you haven't cleared the delay by turning on the screen again by then. Have keylock turned off again after you successfully unlock the screen. Also have a thing on the actual press of the power button so that keylock is enabled right away when it sleeps from that.

In fact, I think I should try to set this up for myself now.

EDIT:
Hmm.

Oops. You're right. Sorry. I mis-read the post. backing out of the thread slowly now, head hung low.

Somebody's done it before with Tasker. I did it differently, to prevent battery use while sleeping and trying to change the keyguard status while asleep, but this probably works too.

Can you share what you did? This alone might actually make me buy tasker. In fact, it definitely would. I have no issues with the screen going dark in 30 seconds (I'd like to do that, actually), but it drives me nuts that I have to constantly use the puzzle piece in that same amount of time. I'd love to do as the OP has talked of...which is to set the screen to go dark fairly quickly, but not require the puzzle piece in a longer period of time (say up to an hour, which is really how my blackberry worked).
