Moving/Merging threads

it gets moved to the forum its supposed to be in.

these posts are posted every now and then from disgruntled members who wonder why their post is moved.

well, its a big forum and the evo, along with other larger forums on this site, gets a lot of threads posted--the general section is not a "catch all", its general. most of the items posted are threads asking for specific things.. and there are sub forums for that.

i am not going to justify why things are moved.. we are all adults im sure and one should understand why threads are moved...

usually there are redirects left in place so one knows where a thread has moved.

one can also subscribe to threads and get a daily digest of them into their inbox.

lastly, if you ave any issues with something, send a moderator a message or a guide and we will take care of it. airing your distaste in the forum is not proper and only causes drama that is not needed.

i appreciate your understanding in this matter.

I basicly quit using/reading these forums because there are rarely "newer" threads in here (they've all been moved).

They will still be "new" threads, except they will now in the appropriate EVO 4G sub-forums. As Marctronixx suggested, the "subscribe" feature is handy for monitoring forums of interest, as is the "Favorite Forums" feature.

It just makes browsing the forums very difficult. Like I said earlier, I understand the theory behind it, but like so many other threads posted... now that this has been moved it will not be seen by hardly anybody. Oh well, there are always other options.

I would appreciate if the moving/merging were just toned down a little bit. Nobody is trying to create unnecessary drama, but simply suggesting what we believe would improve the site - we're on the same team here.

Agrees with the above. If i wanted drama I can think of quite a few others ways to get it kill. ( falls to the floor..owww my broken texting finger)

Here is a post I made in a thread similar to this:
You do realize that there would be NO moved threads IF the MEMBERS actually used the subforums correctly. That would mean for people to stop purposely posting into the main forum to get more views in their thread and/or to actually take the time to read and acknowledge the subforums that were made. In addition, to try and not be lazy by just making a new thread when there is either: 1. already a discussion about it going on 2. already answered 3. already a thread that no one knows the answer yet a member feels compelled to make their own thread with the exact same problem instead of bumping an old thread. If all those things occurred, no one would complain about moving/merging threads because, well there wouldn't be any. But instead, this unfortunately has still yet to be accomplished and mods/guides are used as scapegoats.

And for those saying that finding an answer in a 3-4 page thread is easier than 1 big one. Imagine if you had 20 3-4 page threads. Do you REALLY want to go through that many threads to find your answer?

For the most part, people that complain about moving/merging threads are, ironically, ones that fall under the categories listed above. They are unable to follow simple rules and regulations, and become mad when these polices are enforced. People that do utilize the search function (yes, its going to take effort and time) and the subforums in the correct manner, are those that never have any problems and typically their threads never get merged/moved.

Edit: I don't think people are actually thinking this out (and instead, just trying to find blame), and either way, we as a staff are going to lose. Move threads - people complain that theres too much moving. Don't move threads - people complain that there isn't enough moving and the forum is too cluttered with repetitive stuff. We can't please everyone, so we take action as how we see fit would be best suited for the forum.
I can't speak for the Evo forum, but this definitely applies to the Incredible forum. Just yesterday, I moved a ROOT question thread in the MAIN Incredible forum to the ROOT forum; a thread about CASES in the MAIN Incredible forum to the ACCESSORIES forum. So, either I'm completely off base for putting pertaining topics in their pertaining subforum where they can receive better help from those that are familiar with the situation or there needs to be some reevaluation done on the members part. It isn't like we are moving threads at random - were not moving a thread about a screen protector into the root subforum, and so forth.

Edit: I realize that the topics being questioned are about 4G/etc. and may be a little more difficult to decipher than a straight forward accessory thread; so what I said above may not apply. However, I do believe that all of us (as in the staff) try to use our best judgment when it comes to moving/merging threads.

I don't doubt that for a minute. I don't, and I believe most others can agree, believe that threads are being merged/moved because you guys get paid the big bucks; I realize it is simply to help keep the forums clean and organized so they can be best utilized to find pertinent information. I think we all appreciate the effort.

I also appreciate when threads are moved that obviously should be. However, I cant help but to laugh when a thread was posted in the "root" section of the evo forum and it was somebody asking about leather holsters and it has not been moved to "accessories" when there have been so many questionable moves made at the same time.

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/191775-holster-evo4g-does-not-look-too-nerdy.html

^ that's the thread is somebody wants to send it over to accessories. Honestly it is not a big deal though. Having a free market tends to work (for the most part). Good ol' Adam Smith and the invisible hand... if people post in the wrong section or do a repeat post that has been answered 100 times, people tend to tell them and they learn pretty quick on their own without any other regulation.

Anyway, I know this is a waste of time to write and to read this. I don't know why I have made this a little crusade... but I'll say it again, thanks mods for doing what you think is best - we're all on the same team.

Again, I can't speak for the Evo forum, but I can guarantee you that the Incredible forum has, for the most part, all threads in the correct subforum. You have to keep in mind the amount of traffic and the magnitude of threads we have to deal (remember, all of the staff here still has our day job and personal lives too :)) with so we may miss threads here and there. We honestly try our best and if you think a thread should or shouldn't be moved - report it. It will typically be reviewed if you do that (I recommend you do this if you see any other thread in the wrong subforum). I will move that thread you linked to the accessory subforum.

Oh come now... you actually expect us to believe that!? Day job maybe, but personal life? Bit of a stretch don't ya think?

Nah I'm just playin. Thanks woop.

Now... if you could just merge this thread with another complaint thread, lock it, then move the new super thread to a different section of the forum I think we can call it a day!

(sorry, couldn't help it. ;))

If you can tell me where my 'big bucks' that I'm getting paid for being a MOD in here, I'd give you a big fat e-kiss!!! Cause where these big bucks are, they aren't with me :p

You have to remember the ratio of staffs to members here (roughly 1:5000) and the quantity of threads that are produced on a minute by minute basis 24/7. The MODs and Guides try to patroll as much of Android Forum (you can imagine how big it is if you go to the other phone forums) and keep it clean and organize. As we can only do so much, *coughs* we do miss some threads now and then. As Woop said, if you see a thread that is in the wrong sub/forum, then use the report button and a MOD will look into it :)

I know, right? I was really disappointed when I received my first check. $100 a week for the many hours I spend on here isn't that much at all. Much less than minimum wage.
Kidding, we don't get paid. ;)
Also, let's remember that this forum has A LOT of lurkers. Most of them probably browse the sections they like, so it's important for the threads to be at the right place. The "General" section is often mistaken for a "Anything" forum, but in fact it's not! If you are tired of seeing so many moved threads, well, do your part and post in the right subforum. ;)

Report or PM any staff member, you can find a list of staff (just the guides i think?) at the bottom of any page as long as your not in a thread.
