Advanced Task Killer: 5 out of 5 stars. Perfect Task Managing App

This is a great app and it's very helpful especially for phones with snapdragon processors like the Nexus One and Droid Incredible because you can open numerous apps at once but it does get to a point where the phone will slow a slight slowdown so you just open up the task killer, pick what you don't want running and boom your snapdragon is even snappier. The refresh rate of the app list in the task killer is very good but the MB available doesn't update automatically all the time but over all this is a very helpful application.
The only thing I would change about the app is the ability to select all/deselect all the apps on the list.

Hi there,

I've been using Advanced Task Killer on my HTC Desire for over a month now. Really like it and find it very useful. However, occasionally after killing some tasks (I usually kill most programs with a few exceptions), my screen shows "Loading..." with my background running. It seems to be "restarting" if you know what I mean?

What I want to find out is which task I've been killing that is causing this to happen? Any ideas?

It depends on what you want it to do Melinda, in default mode, it doesn't do anything without YOU clicking the 'kill apps' button. If you go into the settings and set up the 'auto kill' feature then you'll notice an improvement on battery life. At least I did, I have my AK rate set for every hr, with a few apps placed on ignore.

Even the VZW reps recommends this. My husbands phone was acting weird with the internet and they asked him if he had it on there.

I have mine set to auto kill with a few apps on ignore. I like the widget feature so you can kill with a click.

This is the truth. Even Cyanogen; the main custom ROM developer that knows the OS inside & out, has come out and said that killing apps to enhance performance is flawed thinking. It's not how android works. The apps that you see on your task list are not actually open. They just have their states stored so that the next time they open they get going faster. They aren't using any battery or functional operational memory. Any performance enhancement you think you're seeing is kind of like a placebo effect. It doesn't surprise me that killing a bunch of stuff will make your home screen reset & refresh like the guy above was talking about. That's the opposite of a speed boost.

This flawed thinking is so prevalent these days that even the kid that sells you your phone is telling you it's an essential download. Just because the guy sold it to you doesn't give him any credibility as an OS engineer. It's likely just his part time job while he's going to school for some random degree.

I understand and agree with the fact that there is no need for a task killer for Android OS from a performance standpoint. However, I was also wondering if you don't kill a task which periodically goes out to the internet to retrieve information, will it continue to do so after you navigate away from it?

Why do the tasks in the list differ from the ones in the stock Task Manager? There always seems to be a lot more in the ATK screen. Are these also background processes?

I just got the Incredible a few days ago. I went into a VZ Corp store to get screen protectors and a case.
Anyway, immediately the rep said I want to install an app I highly recommend. I asked what it was but he was already installing it when I asked. It was Advanced Task Killer. I told him I had a couple of VZ tech say not put them on the phone as they cause problems and there is no need. He stated well I'm paid by HTC, Motorola and Verizon to know my stuff and I am an expert at the Android platform. He was really tooting his horn, whatever!
Okay, anyway, since installing it. It is now moving my screen. Like the main screen that has the time and weather. No one will be near it and when I come back to my desk the screen as changed. Then I put it back to the main screen and it started going from main screen to screen 2 then screen 3 without touching it. So I killed (rather than uninstall) ATK and since then the screens are not changing. Just curious if anyone else has had this happen? And I'm guess by all the responses here, it really isn't needed. So I probably will uninstall. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem, in case it's not ATK.

I uninstalled ATK and just used the Task Manager widget that comes with the Samsung Widgets menu, and my battery life is so much better now.

I used a task killer ever since I bought my first Android phone over a year ago. About a week ago I read an article somewhere that said Android kills tasks on its own when needed. I uninstalled the task killer and my phone has never run better! My battery life doubled, and it's faster than it ever was when I was killing tasks. Take my word for it, DON'T use a task killer!

Yeah, I uninstalled ATK and my phone is no longer doing those crazy things. And so much for the expert guy! I had to hold back from laughing in his face when he told me he "got paid by HTC, Motorola and Verizon" to know the Android platform.

I run the auto killer on my phone but that is a root only program and all it does is tweak the native task killer to be more aggressive.

Funny thing is on the Galaxy phones there is now a task manager built in. It only lets you close obvious apps you have been using and does show the cpu usage which is handy. I honestly prefer it over all the task killers on the market although unless the phone is noticeably laggy I don't mess with it.

You don't want to kill apps you want to disable them.

i have been using ATK for quite a few days now. This is what I noticed:
I was listening to the FM radio and I wanted to see if by killing hte task in ATK, if the radio should stop (ideally it would)..but it never stopped. Is the ATK actually working ? What is the use of it?
