Root Stock phone does not find any updates...?

Ok, so I restored my phone back to stock, when I go to system updates, says my phone is up to date, however my phone is not 2.2 its about 6 months old.

Any thoughts?

I'd like to update to 2.2 and then find a reliable "full" root procedure for 2.2.

Or just root and flash a 2.2 ROM.. Easier.

I was reading on rooting via unrevoked 3.21, is this pretty easy?

Also, is it full root and permanent? I had heard before that one of these methods your phone went back to stock or something along those lines whenever you rebooted.

Im looking to do full and permanent root, hopefully unrevoked 3.21 is it (?)

Will there be anything else I need to do afterwards, if i decide to do the unrevoked 3.21, such updating radios or anything else....I just want to make sure I have it all done right, and that my phone has all the necessary files.

Um, I think so. I don't mess with unrevoked but I do believe it's permanent. Once you root you can update the radio and PRL if it's not on the current version.

Would you have another suggestion other than unrevoked, which method would you personally use?
