Root SetCPU causing phone freeze? and how to set custom ringtones for individual contacts

Hi Everyone,

I just got a SF about a week ago, and am loving it! I rooted within 30 mins of leaving the store, and wanted to downclock the phone when the screen is off. I've been reading a bit, and apparently the Fascinate downclocks automatically to 100MHz by itself? Can anyone confirm this for me please? I tried setting the screen off profile on SetCPU to 200MHz, but noticed my phone freezing up in standby mode. Nothing would wake it up, except a battery pull. :( I tried bumping up the speed to 400MHz, same effect. I noticed the problem became worse and worse since I've installed it. I had to stop using SetCPU. The problem went away after I stopped using it. I was using SetCPU 2.00 I believe.

Also, another question. Is there anyway to set custom ringtones for individual contacts? I don't see the option anywhere. :(

Has anyone else had the same issues?

Yes. The phone will revert to 100mhz.(you can grab the lite version of SystemTaskPanel and see your CPU).

I can confirm myself that I have had issues with SetCPU. I removed it as Im using the stock kernel and have no desire to alter it.

My only other thing to recommend is make sure you have "auto detect speeds" on setCPU. This could have an effect on your device.

Yeah like you myself and several others got SetCPU and even though we cannot OC yet we thought we'd save battery by throttling down the sleeping cpu. Using either the preset conservative setting and/or a custom one with values too low does it some severe lag and general problems. I ended up uninstalling setcpu for the time being as there is literally nothing to gain by having it on now. Yes, the SF on its own does a pretty darn good job of throttling down.

Also, yes you can set custom ringtones for individual contacts. There's actually a few ways to do it. But arguable the easiest is just to go into contacts and once on the page of the person you wanna customize hit Menu>Edit>Ringtone>Phone Ringtone> then depending on where you save your tunes/music/sounds away you go

Heres the thing about the ringtones.

You MUST have the contact saved under "phone" not "google". My guess is you have all your contacts saved under "google" not, "phone". If you wanna see what im talking about, add a new contact. Then when it asks for Google/Phone, choose phone and you'll see that you can edit a ringtone.

Its annoying, but the only way to do it.

*Also, this goes for adding groups as well.

Hmmm, there's another app I didnt have but man is that a nice one. Interestingly, Im almost never running at a fullGhz, I suppose that it only throttles up all the way when needed

haha :p

and yes, gmail is pushed through!

i rebooted and downloads work fine now, thanks!
FWIW, now that the 1.2Ghz Kernel is out SetCPU becomes much more practical. Also FWIW in your OP you mentioned having SetCPU2.00 whereas 2.03 is the latest, not sure but that might make a difference. Im fighting the urge not to zip this baby on right now
