Help Setting Up Wireless Transfers on a Home Network

This isn't a tip or trick yet, but I sure hope it becomes one.

I don't know how to set this up on my Droid X and Windows computers (XP Pro and Vista on the Wife's). Can someone point me to a tutorial or better yet, lay out here how to do this? I want to sync or move files between the phone and the computers, move pictures and music back and forth and anything else I desire. I see the DLNA and the Media Share stuff...I just don't know exactly how to set this up. I could probably figure it out, but I thought I'd ask because I'm sure someone already has set this up, knows how to direct the rest of us, and ultimately wants to make our lives easier.

Two thoughts for you:

If you are looking to transfer files to a PC via Wifi there are two good solutions that work for me. First, the easiest option is to install DropBox on your phone and PC. If you don't want to use that (free) service, you can connect to a PC share using the Astro file manager app. You'll also need the Astro SMB module app.

As for DLNA, I've been able to stream pictures music and videos from my X using the built in DLNA app that came with the phone. You need a compatible device hooked to your TV like an XBOX 360 or in my case, the Popcorn Hour C-200. I can even stream video I took with the X if I rename the extension to .AVI. (I couldn't believe that worked but it did!) There was nothing I had to setup. Just run the DLNA app and select the device it finds. Then just select your media. Keep in mind that this does not transfer the file. It only streams it.

I use the Bluetooth to move files, pics, etc. back and forth.

there are some specific sites that will help you set it up, but I can't remember where I found them

at any rate, my home computer isn't set up for DLNA, so I had to allow sharing via WLAN/LAN on my home computer. once that's complete, you can see your IP from the X, and all I had to do was login like I'm logging into the computer itself. it opens all the files to me.

it's not a sync option, though.

Here is your solution! Just tried it to solve the disappearing Gallery picture issue when you connect with a usb cable. SwiFTP works great and easy to set up. Just follow the step-by-step.

Once a solution is found (such as has been posted above in post #7, which I've copied to the T&T sub-forum), some users go ahead and post that tip in the T&T section (we need more of those doing that), but the OP is a question and the thread belongs here.
