Nope, it does not. I found the apk and installed fine but I can't launch it. I read somewhere that you need a home screen replacement app to be able to launch it.
I don't know if it launch automatically when you plug the phone in the official car holder...
HTC car dock app it's called NaviPanel and can be downloaded here (modded version too).
Google car dock app it's called CarHome and can be downloaded here (make sure you download the launcher too).
None of the above can be found on the market (I mean not for Desire).

I think it worked for you when it could be found on the market. If I'm right and you uninstall, it might not work to install it again.
BT integration is nice...but this means one have to keep BT ON all the time.
It's best when car mode is triggered by the car dock/charger and use tasker to activate BT/GPS while connected and deactivate after (I only need BT/GPS while driving, with few exceptions)

I use Tasker to schedule enabling Bluetooth on/off at set times on Mon-fri for my commute to/from work. for other times a simple wi-fi toggle widget on the home screen sorts that...
Just new to this forum as I use Winmo on HD2, but the wife has the Desire, However we both use the Venturi Bluetooth device which connect to the car stereo system and will allow your music and sat nav voices to come through the car. Mine (HD2) put the bluetooth on when I connect to the Official Car Kit and disconnects when I remove it. May be worth a try. have not yet got an official car kit for the desire to check it.
I use the Google version, works great. As soon as my Car Bluetoth connects it fires up straight away. You can customise the apps (pick your own unlike Navipanel) on the screen also, and it works in landscape mode.
Tried Cardock V2 but much prefer Googles implementation.
