New Droid X - Launcher pro website?

I just got my Droid X today. Coming over from the Incredible and I'm trying to get things set up the way I like.... so far I'm a little frustrated.

I installed Launcher Pro... but my X chose it as Home, without asking me to select it as default. I finally had to uninstall it just to go back to stock home for a minute. I tried going into Manage applications and clear defaults, but that option was grayed out.

So, I tried to go to the Launcher Pro website to get some help, and I keep getting a "Forbidden" error. Anyone else having that trouble.

Also, my first impressions of the X??? Right now I miss my Incredible - its colorful menus and lack of lag. Everything on my Inc snaps open immediately. I have some lag on my new X, mostly when adding shortcuts, and a little bit on scrolling. But I'm going to give it a try to see if it's really a better phone (call and signal quality)

You cannot set the default home app as "default" if you have any third party home app installed on the Droid X (worked great on the pre-Blur Droid 1). you can temporarily switch to the default home app using home switcher, but next time you hit the home button, you will be back in whatever third party home app you installed. if you install multiple third party home apps, you can use home switcher to set one of those as default.

LauncherPro web site appears to be having technical difficulties at the moment.

I also experienced lag when I first tried Launcher Pro. I recently tried it a second time, and have loved it since. So don't give up! Try fooling around with the memory settings in the preferences file.

Also, the developer is completely revamping the coding for it, so give it a shot maybe after he makes his changes. Its supposed to make the whole app snappier

To those experiencing lag with LP, you MUST clear off the Blur desktop before installing or switching to Launcher Pro.

Remember: LP runs over the top of the default launcher. It doesn't replace it, or uninstall it, or anything. The default launcher is still running in the background. Thus, if you have widgets or whatever, they're going to be running and updating and consuming memory and CPU cycles.

i didn't know you had to unistall all the widgets...after i installed launcher pro all the screens were blank. i figured that lp uninstalled them for me. do i have to uninstall lp, remove all widgets, reinstall lp, and then add the widgets i want to use?

No. Download a free app called "Home Switcher". It will allow you to switch between LP and the stock launcher (don't worry that the app says it's not compatable w/2.2- it works.

Switch to the stock launcher, and drag everything into the trash can. Reboot, and LP will then run much snappier.

No - if you install the free Home Switcher app, you can temporarily switch back to the default Home, uninstall all the shortcuts/widgets, then just press the Home button and LP will fire back up! I just did this myself yesterday after reading about the need to remove all the widgets from default Home.

EDIT: Damn, cygnusloop beat me to it. :) Although not necessary to reboot to get back LP, it's probably a good idea as it will flush any widgets from default Home that are currently in memory.
