Help wake / sleep & on / off button

does this button give headaches to other people too?

there must be a better way to wake your phone up, or turn your phone on! let me explain...

sometimes im not sure if my phone is on and asleep or off as the screen is black and the led isnt flashing. If i want to ensure my phone is off, for when i go to sleep for instance, i have to press the sleep button for it to respond and if it turns out the phone IS already off, it turns it on. this then means i have to wait for the phone to boot so i can then turn it off again or i have to quickly remove the battery (which i dont really want to do).


SOOOOO..... is there no other / better way to check to see if your phone is asleep or off?!?!?...

It is possible to set the optical trackpad as a wakeup key. I have seen this many times with custom roms.

I haven't seen an app that can do it though, that isn't to say one doesn't exist.

Just did a quick google around and it would seem to be something for the custom roms only. A few people have used an app called No Lock, which enables it for any button...but disables screen locking while it is on.

SOOOOO..... is there no other / better way to check to see if your phone is asleep or off?!?!?

I don't have any issue since my phone is ALWAYS, on as it should be. There really is no good reason to turn it off.

If you need it to be quiet at night or in a meeting, turn it to vibrate only or airplane mode. You can charge it while it's on without any ill effects, and you can charge it all night if you want since the phone will automatically stop charging the battery when it's full and run the phone from the AC power, saving the battery for when you unplug it in the morning. You CAN'T overcharge a LiIon battery pack since it has its own circuit to cut off the current flow, so it's fine to charge it for as long as you want - you can't hurt it.

And when it comes to longevity, unless you're storing the phone for weeks or months at a time, there is no benefit to turning it on/off each day. Electronics typically suffer failures due to heating/cooling cycles where the chips expand and contract during power on/off cycles and fracture internally or their solder points. Just like any other computer that is constantly switched on/off, it's best to leave it running all the time rather than turn it off for several hours and then back on again. Unless you're worried about saving some power, I wouldn't be turning the phone off since the small amount of power it uses is negligible compared to the rest of the items in your home.

So why turn it off? You're not saving much power, and you're not adding to the longevity of the phone. Just leave it on and change its mode while sleeping, if that's what you need.

bfksc, i normally do have it on all the time. but i do like to restart it every now and then, and I do turn it off once or twice a week for it to fully charge while off!!

Hi all,

Having the "accidentally turning on the phone when you were only trying to see if it was on in the first place" problem is very common.

There is an app on the market today called Power On Indicator. It simply flashes the device LED slowly, even when the phone is sleeping (but not when it is off).

The app is free and ad free, doesn't run continuously in the background and uses next to no resources - just that required to light the LED, which is almost nothing.
