HTC Hero display color

Hi anyone, I'm a new android htc hero user. been playing with hero for 3 weeks and really glad that I bought it. Besides, thanks to all the thread and instruction from this forum from u guys.
Hero really rocks, but today I just figured out that Hero only display 65k color, a bit surprise cause the hero display is amazing, I thought it is 16m color.
Does anyone know that it's a limitation in hardware or from 1.5 software itself?
Will 2.1 is released, will hero take 16m color? Really hope for that

It's half good news, Half bad.

The bad: It's not 16m colors

The good: It is 262k so we should see a big improvement when 2.0 / 2.0.1 / 2.1 (or whatever the hell we get!) drops. It is currently limited to 16k by the 1.5 OS version

Tbh I don't see the need for any more. I've examined 32-bit JPGs of my own photographs and can see no artifacts, banding etc. Flesh tones are smooth and subtle colour shifts (such as blue skies) are rendered accurately. The human eye has difficulty discerning even 65k different shades/hues anyway. Plus it requires less juice to run.

I can see the diffences very clearly between 65k and 16m on nokia, samsung as well.
Haven't seen on HTC so cant be sure about that

How do you know it will be improved to 262k vido.ardes?
I see a big difference, whenever I choose a background image, it tends to have separations in colour of the gradients. Would be great to have 262k!
