Hello everyone.

I have a Galaxy S running stock ROM. No lagfix no custom ROM no root nothing.

Just now I tried going into recovery/download mode to see what features it have by pressing the volume down+home+Power button.

Now the phone says "Downloading

Do not turn of target! " :( :(

What can I do to solve this problem. Till now I havent tried to restart the phone? Should I do that?

Regards

Is it plugged in? If not, just pull out the battery and restart it.

edit: by plugged in I mean plugged into a computer.

Thanks for the reply. I am quite worried here.

No it is not plugged in to the computer. Though I plugged the wall charger just incase the battery got over.

So shall I pull out the battery or try the power button to see if it switches off?

Regards.

Yes, you will be fine. Nothing's being downloaded onto your phone. I just tried repeating what you did and everything is working just fine :D

Thanks a lot dude. Your a LIFE SAVER! :D

Well this incident have made sure that I will NEVER try Root on my phone! Not quite worth the risk.

I guess I maybe got into the wrong mode by pressing the wrong button i.e. volume down?

Is it like Volume up with the combination is for Recovery and Volume down with the combination is for Download?

PS: Thanks again for trying it yourself. It indeed helped me knowing that it went fine with you! :)

Dude i think you have a very wrong concept of rooting ... rooting does nothing but gives you deeper access into your phone...

If you plan on using titanium backup , which according to a lot of users including me is probably the best backup app on the market , you will need root access ...

I think there is a new app in the market called androidroot or something like that which will root your phone without the hassle of the update.zip method ..

Read this link , you will learn a lot from this .. cheers and enjoy your phone ..

I no there are threads similar to needing help suck in download mode. But I had some different problems. First i tried to use the odin to flash back to stock so i can use a different rom. but when i was trying my phone got unplugged from my computer and i received a picture on my phone with a phone a caution sign and the computer. i finaly got out of that and was able to put it in download mode. took about 30 min to get off that caution sign to the download mode. now from here using the command prompt it can detect my phone with adb devices. i also cant get odin to work. Im sorry that this is so long, but this is the first time this has happened so im reaally in need of help. Also if i take my battery out and try again then i get that phone and caution sign with the computer again and have to spend about another 30 min trying to get back to download mode

You messed up /system by unplugging the phone half way through. The only thing you can do right now is to flash the rom again using Odin. Get into download mode first without the phone plugged in, run odin on your PC, and then plug your phone in. Make sure you have the newest version of Odin.

I agree there are a lot of apps which are very good and require ROOT access. 1 benefit would also be to delete the bloatware which comes with the camera and is not used even once.

Maybe someday later when after the phone is pretty old I would try my hands at it! Theres always a first time! :D

I'd recommend watching a youtube tutorial on rooting if you're unsure. The first time these "system" screens appear it can be a little daunting.

I guess we're all just too used to pretty/polished user interfaces lol.
