Root Bluetooth problem after Vlingo

I have lost my ability to connect my phone and car via bluetooth. It was working fine since I got the phone, I rooted, flashed the rooted 3.29.651.5 update, and all still worked fine.

Then I installed Vlingo and the phone would connect to the car momentarily and then disconnect. I tried to manually connect and it would, but then immediately disconnect itself again.

I used Titanium backup to uninstall Vlingo and the bluetooth still did not work. I then cleared by both caches and it still did not work. I went as far as to flash 3.29.651.5 again and it still will not work. EGATS!

I really need this phone to bluetooth with my car. It worked great before I installed Vlingo. Can anyone help me?

Well I thought I had it but...
Once again it is doing the same thing. It connects, and a few seconds later the car says the bluetooth is no longer connected. When I check the phone, it says, "Paired but not connected" I'll try a few other things, but I'd appreciate any help here.

Will it do this if you just do a factory wipe without restoring any app? Maybe it's not vlingo and some other app doing it.

Vlingo "in car mode" causes my phone to reboot when I turn bluetooth off. I feel for you.i did the same as you and used TB to remove vlingo and my problem went away.

Yeah, I removed Vlingo once through TB then reinstalled and removed it via the app manager. No difference, my bluetooth is still on the fritz. I can get it to work sometimes only if I turn bluetooth off, then on again after the car has started and was looking for the signal. This is frustrating.
There must be a way to get my bluetooth back to how it worked before.
I have tried:

  • complete wipe and reinstall of ota rooted rom
  • reinstalled Vlingo tested, then unistalled again
  • deleted and then restored backups of BrcmBlueToothServices 1.0 and Bluetooth Share 2.2
  • deleted BrcmBlueToothServices 1.0 and Bluetooth Share 2.2 then flashed rooted ota rom to get clean copies back again (I hope)
  • Unpaired my Evo from my car then paired them again.
Is there something I am missing?

Great woops! I wish I would have seen this before I installed Vlingo.
Now even though I un-installed it, I still can't get my phone to work right with my car.
This is from their support site.

"Bluetooth in-vehicle installation not working
Why doesn't Vlingo work with my Bluetooth in-vehicle installation?

Vlingo is adding hands free features with each release. Version 3.0 is the first to support a variety of Bluetooth headsets. However, Vlingo does not yet support other types of Bluetooth devices such as car-mounted installations.
To prevent Vlingo from trying to communicate with your in-car Bluetooth system, turn off Bluetooth support in Vlingo Options.
To use Vlingo with your Bluetooth headset, continue to press the side key rather than the button on the headset."

Came here from seeing your warning post. Sounds like Vlingo updated some system file or data per your rooted phone. That maybe why others are not having same issue after they uninstalled Vlingo. Sorry can't help with rooted phone.

Did you get this fixed? I'm having the exact same prob, and i'm a little pissed off!
Not sure yet. I just flashed the latest King Kernel #11 and it seems to be different. It worked for a while then not, then I rebooted from recovery using ROM manager and it worked fine for the one car trip I've taken since. I'll know more after I get in and out of the car a few times. Hopeful, but not optimistic.

Not having the same problem, other than reboots. But it's still in beta. Works well with my BT (Plantronics Voyager 510) and wife's Evo works well with her in-car BT (08 Toyota Highlander). We're both running stock. Hope you get it resolved

My EVO is doing the same damn thing.

I've never had vlingo (I don't even know what the heck it is), so that specific app may not necessarily be the problem.

When I was 2.1, unrevoked, rooted 2.2, and CM6'ed, I had no problems with bluetooth.

When I "upgraded" to Fresh (both 3.3 and 3.4.0.1) it started acting up.

I have since upgraded to Myns Warm twopointtwo, and I believe it worked fine. I never did a real test because I didn't leave Myns alone for long before upgrading the Radio, Wimax, PRL, PRI, and NV. Now it's back to acting up.

It will connect, then up to 5 minutes later it will tell me "Connection lost".

It's not my car kit. My Instinct and M1 will stay connected indefinitely.

Anyone think it might be a radio issue? Does the radio have anything to do with bluetoth?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think I have made a small breakthrough. It seems to be a prob when the JVC stereo in the car asks for the phonebook from the Phone. If I set the phone to decline everything works, with the exception of the phonebook in the unit of course.

So the question, is it the unit, or the phone that is causing it?
Has data got corrupted somewhere which upsets this feature when the phone crashed?

I'll see if there is some way of doing some sort of factory reset on the JVC Unit
I might also see if I can get it going on another stereo unit somewhere, hopefully I can narrow down one to one of them this way and go from there.

Interesting thought about the data being corrupted. I'll have to explore that. However, I believe it is a phone problem and not the vehicle. Here's what I know so far:

  • From this post this problem, and several like it, happens with many different vehicles
  • My wife and I have the same Evo phone, and hers does not have this issue when I pair it with my car. The only difference here is the programs we use (such as Vlingo) and the size of the phone book.
  • Even a wipe and re-flash does not help this problem
  • From what others say, changing ROMS does not correct this.
  • Jury is still out on a kernel change, I'll see about that.
  • No one reported on changing radios etc yet, but that will be next for me if needed
  • No one has tried a complete factory wipe/restore to see if it would help. (Extreme only as a last resort for me)
Anyone wants to chime in with your experience, by process of elimination we should be able to solve this as a group. That what these forums are for. Thanks!

I believe Bluetooth is in the Kernel, do Fresh and Myn's use the same or similar Kernel?

It seems like changing the kernel had an affect, but the problem seems to still be there or worse. I've done extensive searching and all I have found is this website: BlueZ.
They suggest that there is something within the kernel that controls the bluetooth function. We are now getting way over my head, but there may be a solution here if I can find a kernel that utilized the most recent bluetooh stuff (bluez-4.78 or obexd-0.36).
Any help here in the form of an explanation or advice is appreciated. Are these (bluez-4.78 or obexd-0.36) something I can install, or do I have to wait for a kernel with them installed?

Since it appears those who are running stock are not having the same issue can't you just do that and go from there?
I was running a stock rooted ROM and kernel with bluetooth working just fine for weeks. Then immediately after I installed Vlingo my bluetooth stopped working properly. I unistalled Vlingo and was back to exactly the same setup I had prior to Vlingo, only then the bluetooth still did not work. Vlingo changed something in my bluetooth that I have been unable to fix even with all the things I have tried. I'm still searching for an answer.

Originally both Fresh and Myns use HTC kernels.

I have since updated to Myns RLS3 with the included HTC kernel and bluetooth suddenly works again.

I can not explain why it would work with Myns and HTC kernel, but not Fresh and HTC kernel. I can also say the Kings #11 kernel was causing me bluetooth problems as well.

Now that I got it working again, I am leaving the phone alone for now.
