Root Voodoo for the Fascinate coming soon??

So I am back to the SF. The DX was about to be cracked but shit happened and are now back to square two:D:(

So I some questions and I really hope someone can answer...
Do roms that work on other galaxy s phones work on the SF?
If not directly work, are the easy to "port" over?
I assume yes but I am not sure.
Also sorry about my noobness of Samsung but what is Odin?
And is there something comparable to an sbf, for moto phones, for samsung?

TIA

ROMs from other GS phones don't work with the Fascinate, but from what I understand it's easier to port than say a Moto Droid ROM.
Odin is basically an sbf, if you soft-brick your phone it will take you back to stock. Also, to get clockworkmod working on the Fascinate you need to use Odin, so it kind of gives you a basic introduction when you first root your phone.

Glad to see you joining the Fascinate community, it really is too bad about the DX bootloader, but it seems the Fascinate is benefiting by getting some great people.

Yeah D13 glad to see you here. Just to compliment irishpride's. Its true the ROM's that work on Vibrant and Captivate are not directly us-able for us [SF]. However, they do port over very easily [for the dev's who know their shiznit; not me]. For instance, I thnk almost everyone is working with the Captivate Froyo for their build. Also the 1.2Ghz OC Kernal that just came out also had its roots on the Captivate I believe.
Odin's pretty user friendly and yeah basically you will only need it twice ever. One to put CWM onto your SF and two if you ever need to do a full system restore

Thanks everyone, I am really happy to be joining a new team. So from what you have seen so far, would you say that the SF will be pretty well supported by the devs? And yeah for the past couple days I really thought it was going to get unlocked...oh well I will get over it. :D

Sorry for all the questions,
TIA

I do think that support for the Fascinate is going to get a huge bump in the next couple of weeks, for one we have Voodoo coming very soon and Birdman is trying his best to get one, which will be huge! Considering what the guy did for the DX, he's going to be a great addition.

yeah I saw that, I am actually pretty excited about getting the Fascinate. But were you thinking when everyone thought the bootloader was going to be unlocked and really soon.

D13 now that you have your IRC all figured out check out #samsung-fascinate on freenode. That is where a lot of the development is going on right now.

I was in the the #sholesunlock about as soon as it was created, and for some reason even had a voice for a day an and half. The first night everything was looking very good and hopeful, except [mbm] was very skeptical. Which as it turns out he was right on about every issue.

There's word that a very alpha fascinate 2.2 build might get dumped here in the next couple of days as a basis to start building roms off of. If thats the case we may be seeing CM6 sooner rather than later.

Odin is actually pretty easy, I got it set up in a virtual machine through linux and unlike the Droid X drivers are not really an issue on windows. Somewhere over at xda they have the drivers.

Hmm, with all the development going on for the fascinate and the prospects of froyo earlier than i thought maybe I'll pick one up once the auction for my X ends.

At first I was anti-Samsung based on past phone experiences but with overclock of 1.6 ghz and a great gpu, maybe Ill pick one up.

Well that 1.6kernal never actually ran at 1.6. Dirrk came out and said it was not actually running higher than 1.1 which explains why people were benching lower than the 1.2kernal. There is even debate about whether the 1.4 was really 1.4. Several 1.2kernals are 100% legit and the performance numbers show it.
One of the dev's said voodoo lagfix is 99% done so honestly we'll probably see that anyday now

I realize no one has prolly used voodoo on another galaxy s phone and are using the other lagfix (if using one at all), but how "good" is voodoo really?

is it a huge increase in performance or just in quadrant scores? will it have to be uninstalled before 2.2 (when available) can be used, and will it work with 2.2?

sorry for the questions, just trying to see if I'm gonna make the jump to the sf to join my dinc.

The voodoo lag fix is a real fix, unlike the other one that is mostly just a trick. Voodoo, to my understanding, reformats the data partition from nfs to ext4. The developers have voodoo working but are having trouble with data right now.

My opinion is that if you are considering switching devices to load custom roms and such, the Fascinate would be the better choice because the hardware is better and software for the most part can be altered.
