.08 blood alcohol app

I was just messing around with my friends iphone and he has this app called .08. It calculates your blood alcohol level by how much youve drank and your weight. I was wondering if there was on app like this for the G1 and what the name of it is

i know my limits im not afraid of alcohol poising. it would be nice to know how much i can drink legally before i drive so i don't get a DUI. and its just a cool idea to know your bac when you've been drinking a lot

This app is virtually useless as it does not take into account your metabolic rate. I personally feel the whole idea of "knowing how much you can drink" is misguided. If you want to have a drink, leave the car at home. As for the other poster being an "asshole" I think that to know your limits is fairly reasonable advice.

That program, and anything like it is total garbage. Different people process alcohol differently and the creators of that program should be shot for giving people a false sense of security. And please, don't come in here calling people 'assholes', it only makes you look like one yourself.

Second what he said, you could pick out 2 guys who are both 6 feet, 180 lbs, and had 8 beers... One could be falling on his face while the other is perfectly coherent. It also depends on the amount of time you've had to process the drinks. If you want, buy a cheap breathalyzer, they sell some inexpensive ones.

It also has to do a lot with just how does your brain react when you're drinking.

And yes there are apps for guessing your BAC.

Though don't try and tell the cop that you're phone says you're under the legal limit when his breathalyzer says otherwise.

Android has the exact same app go to the app store and do a search it's called .08? Blood Alcohol Content Calc.... You need the ? as it is part of the name for some reason

I've read reviews on the app, and most seem to be pretty bad. I'm not gonna download it because I don't drink and probably never will (yes, I know, I'm crazy).

I'm just wondering, how in the hell can you make an app to test your BAC? There's certainly not a breathalyzer built into the phone, right? I always wondered how it "worked"...

Well, they only take a couple out of several variables into consideration, so relying on them would be just plain foolish.

I'm not going to say I completely understand how all that works but maybe.. Maybe if you proved over a buncha test runs that it always err'd on the side of caution for YOU, you could use it as a baseline of some sort.

In other words if it always calculated out saying you've had too much (or enough) with the 2 variables it uses, yet a breathalyser always showed you could drink a bit more, maybe then you could use it as a to-be-safe-don't-drink-past-this kinda thing.

I don't really know though I'm just kinda thinking out loud. As several others have said - don't go using something like this. Get a cheap breathalyser or more preferably - make plans for someone else to drive.

Actually, i've had pretty good luck with the app! We were at a bar for my work's Christmas party; we went around and decided who was drunker than who, then used the App and it all worked out.

Of course it's not exact, but it's turned out to give a pretty good answer so far. I'm starting to use it to keep track of my drinks when I go out - will let'cha know how it goes.

Not trying to be an ass or anything. I'm not one of those guys that flames people on messageboards, really. I'm just getting the impression that the OP and the person I quoted are the types of people you tend to hear about that get behind the wheel after having too much alcohol, and then end up killing themselves and other people.

Boozing it up is a blast. I'm definitely not some anti-alcohol advocate. Just the fact that some people actually rely on a poorly coded novelty application that is nothing more than a simple alogorythm to determine how drunk they are? Just seems a little foolish to me. These aren't personal attacks at anybody, I'm just saying, please do not rely on this application to decide whether or not you can drive after drinking. If you even have to question whether or not you're in any condition to drive, you shouldn't drive.

I'm a laid back dude. I'm not looking to pick fights or flame anybody. So, terribly sorry if I was a little too blunt.

I don't see this app trying to keep people safe as much as it is trying to keep them out of trouble. The effects of alcohol are different on different people. Someone could be under the legal limit and still not be able to drive safely. I agree with Jesse. If you drink enough to be curious about you BAC...don't drive.

I know there was an Iphone app called R-U-Buzzed and it would call you a cab if it indicated you were drunk. Although I can't seem to find it on the android app marker.

Utterly agree with this. This thread is deals with drink driving - you know that thing that kills people? It is perfectly fair for someone to make the point that an app is no substitute for knowing your legal and personal limit and I'm a bit disappointed that a mod thought this was worth a slap-down.

Just like the billboards say; Buzzed driving is drunk driving. If you even feel a bit of a buzz you are most likely going to go over the legal limit at some point.

If you get pulled over by the cops for doing something fishy and they smell alcohol they will usually detain you and run a bunch of field sobriety tests and Breathalyzers till at some point you fail it. even if you are pulled over under the limit its quite possible your BAC has not peeked yet and gone over the limit and cops will drag it out for a while if they have to.

I haven't joined the DUI club yet but 2 of my closest friends have and trust me leaving it up to a app to calculate this shit is stupid and not responsible.

I am utterly amazed that anyone would even remotely take the chance of working out if they can drive from an app on a phone.

I fear that those who wish to trust such an app are looking for an excuse to drive and are using false confidence to allow themselves 1 more drink.

me and the wife went out last night for the football. I was drinking and while we were out the wife decided to have a couple of small glasses of wine. She was probably still under the limit and any app would likely have agreed, but we got a taxi anyway.

Better safe than sorry on so many different levels.

Actually, I agree with the Mod's actions since nobody has actually said that they want to use this app to determine whether they can safely drive. Further, the comments were much ruder than they needed to be.
